How did you transition to 1 nap?

Around 14 months I started noticing that she just didnt want to nap or didnt nap for that long in the mornings anymore. Gradually transitioned to 1 afternoon nap... Like first shed be tired at like 11... Then 11:30... Now I can get her start to nap between 12-1 for 2 hours or so.

Re: How did you transition to 1 nap?

I just dropped DD's later afternoon nap. She is only 11 months but was ready. Her first nap was 2+ hours (11-1) and 2nd was a catnap at 4pm. Second nap kept getting later and later and she was playing in crib and takin too long to fall asleep and would only sleep 45 min. It was ruining her bedtime she wasn't tired at 8-8:30pm and was fighting bedtime ugh. So now I try to push back 1st nap to 12 and she sleeps till 2 and then bed right at 8pm with no crying! It's only been a week but so far it is working nicely! She is not crabby, doesn't rub eyes and seems ok with this extra awake time!

So yeah try pushing back 1st nap a little each day or just. Push back by 1 hour like I did lol.

Around 10 months DD started refusing her afternoon nap. Since her first was around 10:30am and wasn't much more than an hour, she was a wreck by bedtime. I tried for days to keep that 2nd nap but it wasn't happening so I gave up. It took a while for DD to adjust. I tried to get out of the house to keep her up longer and after a while she finally started to nap later. It also took time for her nap to get longer since she'd always napped an hour at a time. She's now 16 months and a good days naps 1-4.

DD is 11.5 months and has pretty much refused her afternoon nap everyday for the past 2 weeks or so. She is going down for her morning nap about a half hour later, and sleeping about a half hour longer. She has also started going down at night about 15 minutes earlier, and waking up about 15 minutes later in the morning. It's just been a natural progression so far.

How did you transition to 1 nap?

DS turned one year on 8/26. He used to nap around 9:30 and then again at 2. Gradually his naps were closer to 10:00 and 3:30 or even 4:00. Then finally he was having a seriously rough time going down for either and a rough time going down at night. Just yesterday we started one nap. I took him out and let him play in the grass in the morning to keep him distracted, he went down at 12:14 and slept an hour and a half. Today I put him down at 12:30 and he slept for 2 hours 45 min!

The daycare that DS went to forced him to do it at 14 months because that age group only took one nap a day. First they allowed him to take a short catnap around 10 for a half hour and then did a nap from 1-3. After a few weeks, they eliminated the morning catnap and he was fine. I would say by 15 months he was only doing the afternoon nap. At daycare he napped 2 hours but on the weekend he could nap for up to 3! He's 4 and still naps though. He loves his sleep! Chat Icon

How did you transition to 1 nap?

I just followed my dd lead. Some days shed still do 2 for 1 hour each then every few days it would turn into 1 for 2-2.5 hours. Until finally she got a vonsistent 1 nap a day. Its anywhere from 1030-1130 for 2-2.5 hours...

I started to notice she was fighting the morning nap. Or she would only sleep 30 min in the morn then fight the afternoon nap. Then try to nap too late in the day and when i wouldnt allow it she would be a disaster and id end up putting her to bed for the night crazy early like 6pm.

They did it themselves.

DS 1 started taking one nap on his own around 15 months - he'd take a morning nap and would skip the afternoon nap so we pushed the morning nap back a bit to mid-day.

DS 2 was back and forth - he'd take 1 nap for us and one long and one short nap at daycare (since there was no room for him in the room he was supposed to be in which only had one nap).
