We got the ok from the ped at 9 months. I tried a few times around a year but I was nervous bc DD had reactions to some foods. Once we had allergy testing done at 13 months and I knew she was fine with it I gave it a lot more.

I waited until 2 with DS1. I just introduced it recently with DS2 at almost 14 months. There's no history of peanut allergies in our family and I ate it all the time while pregnant and BFing.

Ped said 2, but I think I'll try it just after a year old. New studies are saying 9 mo. I did berries and eggs early too and they were fine. I'll just give it when I can watch them closely.

Ped gave the ok at 2
I wouldn't have ever introduced it - I was soooo nervous to do it.
Finally one day when I was at work DH gave her a teaspoon and said she was fine.
I am glad I wasn't home- I'd have been hovering over her with the benadryl at the ready.
I am super paranoid like that!

as per the ped we waited until DS1 was 1. their guidelines have changed and we will introduce it to DS2 at 9 mo. i was so nervous about it - i was totally standing over him with the benadryl ready to go (his cousin is allergic to peanuts). DS1 is 19 mo now, he loves it and it's a staple. i don't know what i'd do without it!

Our PED said it was ok at 1. I waited until about 14m to try it. He didn't care for it then but now at 17m he likes it.

Two of my young cousins have peanut allergies. If they eat peanuts they will die without their epi-pen. I don't think Benadryl would do anything.
A great way to introduce is at the doctors office. Just in case they have epi-pens readily available.
This is what I plan to do. But I am overly cautious bc of my cousins. My uncle trained us all how to use it and we know where it is at all times.

How fast would an allergic reaction occur? I am just curious. My dh and I dont have any food allergies so I dont know much about it.

It varies. It can be just a rash the first time then worse the next time they have it. And you don't know what their reaction will be. (get sick, a few hives, cant breathe)

Before age 1. We have no history of food allergies on either side so we were ok trying it with DD early.

I am not a dr or allergy expert, just a mom with a peanut allergy DS. His first reaction at 15 months was VERY minor. He got 1 hive and 1 swollen eyelid. The next reaction was much worse and required benadryl and epi-pen. Typically the first reaction is not severe and benadryl is fine. However, I totally understand anyone who wants to be extra cautious. And now that we have a family history, I will probably get my next child tested at the allergist office rather than test at home.

exactly. That's what makes it so scary. it can happen super quick (within minutes) or over 24 hours. it can be less serious (rash/hives) or anaphylactic. you just don't know.

We just gave DS a try a few weeks ago at 17 months. So far we have given him the tiniest bit on a piece of banana three separate times with no issues.
Does anyone know how many times he needs to have it without a reaction before I can consider him 'in the clear?'. I know allergies can develop at any time later on in life (as mine have) but generally speaking how many exposures does it take?

I know when we were trying new stuff with DD we did it 3 times. With nuts, I feel like allergies will pop much sooner. I am a nervous wreck to try it with her. We have no food allergies either.

My ped said I can do it around 9 months. I plan to give her some on the way to her 9 month check up, that way if she has any reaction, we'll be at the doctor.
