Hardwood floor opinion
We are getting hardwood floors in our living room and the dining room is being refinished and stained my question is should they be stained the same color or would you do different to distinguish the separate rooms ? The are adjoining rooms with a medium size opening no door
The contractor suggests all one color looks uniform and the rooms will seem bigger
Also side question - does any have pre-finished wood and are you happy with it ?

Hardwood floor opinion
Same color. Mixed woods in general bug me out. Mixed hardwood floors, I could never live with that.

Personally I would do all the same color.
Hubby sells flooring. Prefinished makes life so much easier than finish in place. Put it down and it's done. We have hardwood and had them refinished a year ago and occasionally we can still smell the finish. Finish in place causes a mess.

Definitely the same color. We did prefinished and I love it. It has a beautiful shine and cleans easily. DD was around 4 months when we installed it so staying out of the house while DH installed it was long enough, I didn't want to deal with staining and odors on top of that.

Although the above is true... I think its definately nicer to have site finished hardwood flooring.
we did a whole house of it during our renovation, Its nice and flat, no edges of boards catch dust, just 1 continuous surface.
Its somewhat messy, and did smell for small period of time, but overall, I feel like its a nicer installation and was worth it.
I say 1 color for both rooms. It will give it a nicer continous feel

Same color. The house we recently bought has different colors in every room and it drove me insane! We already ripped it up (they wernt real wood anyway) and plan on redoing it the same color throughout before we get in

Thank you all so much - we will do the same color - that doesn't give us the option to do prefinished then - we have an exisitng adjoining room that we want to match well.
I was told water based finished really has no odor? Is that true ?
