Car Seats and Winter Babies

Now that the summer is over and all the new babies out there are in car seats, it is important to remember how to dress your babies for their car seats.

No snow suite. Babies do not play in the snow, also it adds cushioning between the child and the seat's straps that should not be there.

No heavy or puffy winter jackets - same reason as above.

Best thing to do is dress the baby like you would in the spring or fall. Long sleeves, light jacket. Remember that your car has heat, the house has heat, mall, shopping and so on. The exposure to the outdoors is minimal at best. For warmth use a blanket. Colder days, double it up.

Many car seats have coverings. But what you should not do is use anything that places material between the child and the seat like the Bundle Me.

We consider the Bundle me one of the worst products on the market with regard to safety. I am not here to debate this issue, but rather point out that it will not work safely with the Britax, the Chicco, Peg Perago, Maxi Cosi, the new Graco infant carriers.

First it places material between the child and the seat. Second, it does not line up with the straps properly, causing the straps to possibly not react properly in a crash.

And lastly, with all the new head supports built in and the new ways of adjusting the height of the strap, it will not line up properly.

Thanks for these important reminders. Just to clarify: the "shower cap" style BundleMe is safe, right? Because there is no material between baby and carseat? Thanks!

Looks like it is not too thick - should be great - but don't you think bunny ears would be cuter?
