I see where you are coming from, totally. But I think sometimes it is okay to go against your normal schedule for a special occasion like a family member's birthday.

Honestly, yes I think so. It's not fair to expect your SIL to schedule events around your DCs sleep schedule. My DD goes to bed between 7 and 8pm. When there's something going on like that, I just keep her up later.

i personally would just make an exception. My DD goes to bed usuallly between 7:30 and 8:30 but for parties and other things we just let her stay up. i just bring PJs and change her before we leave so if she falls asleep in the car she can go straight to bed.

Honestly, yes I think you are. This isnt an everyday thing, its a birthday party. Chances are you dc will be so happy to be around other kids and being a kid, it wont even matter. I think going 2 hours earlier ( as a crazy person who is paticular about a lot, it would bother me having anyone 2 hours earlier) and then leaving shortly after, I think would make things worse for your dc. Jmho

Since its not a usual occurance and it's for a birthday party, I would just go.
I get wanting your kids to stay on a bed time routine but you have to live and have fun sometimes, ya know? I think it's good to keep kids flexible.
