please help!!! ds won't even say momma still!
Ds is 16m babbles all day. High energy. Very curious and outgoing. He has yet to evem say momma or dadda. Ped said let's wait and if still no word we will get speech eval in a couple months. I repeat things allllllll day. He knows what water is ... Ball... He points sometimes. I am not worried that he is physically or emotionally delayed but I would love any other sugghestions so we don't need to get outside help if possible :( thank you!!!

Does he understand you? If you ask him to hand you the ball, will he? I had DS evaluated for speech twice. He was already in the system for physical therapy and when e was barley talking I had him evaluated. The second time was around 18 months. They were looking for more if he could understand me than actually be verbal at that point. You can always call Early Intervention for your county and schedule an appt for a meeting and then an evaluation. It's free so in you are really concerned, there's no harm in seeing what they say. A lot of times, if the child doesn't qualify, they'll give you tips on what to do to help your child. My DS started really talking around 22 months. Good luck!!

I had the same worries. My DS was super early on most things but wouldn't talk. My ped had me worried. I kept at simple simple words. Dada was the first. He all of a sudden really started talking at 18 m. Up until then he only had may e 3 or 4 words.
You have nothing to lose by having him evaluated. But also don't freak yet.

I would say as long as he is babbling as you mentioned he is fine. Many children especially boys talk late.

He is still way young to be too concerned. EI evaluations are free, so if you are worried, by all means get evaluated. But my daughter who is 5 couldn't say Dada at her second birthday and now will NOT SHUT UP, ever!   We did EI, but I think she was just developing on her own schedule.

Ei is great!! It's free!! My girls have had ei pt for the past 1.5 years and we are having their speech evaluated next week. Once they are 2 (my twins are preemies and they stop adjusting once they are 2)

My 16 month old hasn't said momma yet either. She says dadadadada all day long! The speech therapist at my school said that comprehension comes before expression so as long as they understand things, they are probabably on track. Until then I'll justbkeep on saying mama a billion times a day!
