If you had a fetal echocardiogram, insurance Q
Did you need a preauthorization from your insurance company?
I'm going tomorrow for one (recommended because DD1 had a VSD that has since closed up). The place didn't say anything about my insurance, but should I have called them? I know I'm only supposed to have 3 sonos, which I've already had. I'm not sure if this counts as a sono.

I did not need a pre auth from my insurance. I have empire and I had about 7or 8 sonos. So I am not sure if I had unlimited sonos. Good luck :)

It shouldn't count as a sono. And the place you scheduled at will most likely call you if your insurance refuses to approve it.

I don't think I needed authorization - and I have needed authorization for all my growth sonos but the fetal echo I think was fine. It is also the practice's responsibility to either inform you of the need for it or call on your behalf. If nobody told you, then it is not your fault.

Thank you! The heart center hasn't asked about insurance. Hopefully it will all be covered. I had different insurance when I had my DD and had to pay A LOT out of pocket in the end. I believe this plan covers more.

I didn;t need one. DD wouldn't flip over at our Level 2, so I had to go get one.

I did indeed need a pre-auth for all my sonograms, including the fetal echo I needed due to a potential heart issue. I have oxford.

I didn't need preauthorization either. I have Aetna.
So far I've had 6 sonogorams (going for my 7th and last tomorrow) and haven't received a bill yet from them. Yet being the key word here b/c Aetna stinks at times.

I did not, but I'd check with your insurance company. It's expensive if you have to pay for it!

IF it is Oxford there is a good chance you need an authorization but they probably do it automatically. Your office would do it and then give it to the place you are going.

I do have Oxford. The woman at the heart center didn't think I needed anything. They did take my specialist copay though, which makes me think I should've had a referral. I'm going to call this am.

Referral and prior auth are different. A referral is usually to see the doctor, prior auth is for the procedure usually. They wouldn't have done the test if you needed a prior auth and it wasn't done.... I am sure your fine, call the office if you want peace of mind or to find out what you can anticipate.
