If you gave/are giving north at Stonybrook
I was wondering if you know the hospital's policy on bathing the baby right after birth? I have been reading that it is better to not bathe the baby right away because the vernix is good for the baby's skin. Don't know much about it but was wondering if you ladies did! Thanks!
Eta: subject should read giving birth not north lol

Funny I didnt even notice your mistake in post topic..lol
My baby was not bathed for a while after she was born. Nurses barely wiped her off after she was born. Not sure of Stonybrooks policy but you can start by asking your OB then hospital.

Re: If you gave/are giving north at Stonybrook
My baby didn't have a bath for about 3-4 hours after delivery with my last. She was 11 days late so there really wasn't a lot of vernix on her so I was fine with the bath at that time.
I'm sure if you request it, they will oblige. I had two babies there, in 2010 and this past April. With my last, my baby never left my eyesight. No wheeling them to the nursery for a bath & ped look over. They did it all in room. I would think they would respect your wishes for delaying a bath for the benefits the vernix provides given the push for mother/baby bonding.
Also, I was with the midwives so I don't know of that makes a difference in the post partum & newborn protocols.
