Anyone has this problem with their mom?

I have now caught my mom 3 times refer to herself as mommy. She is about to watch DC full time when I go back to work and it is totally making me uncomfortable. Is she going to spend the whole day referring ro herself as mommy? That was a rhetorical. My real question is has anyone else dealt with this?

No, and I find that very strange. Are you sure that's what she was saying? Have you asked her about this?

Yeah.

My mom does this (accidentally). She corrects herself. It bothered me in the beginning, but then it stopped bothering me (she loves DC like a mommy).

Kids both do not call her mommy.

I'm sure and I find it strange as well. The only thing I can think of is that she has a dog that she treats like her baby and she refers to herself as mommy like 800 times a day. So maybe it's just a slip. I think I am afraid she will cross other lines while watching DC.........I have a feeling that this arrangement is going to come between us in a major way. I hope not! I guess only time will tell.

It sounds like a slip to me. I do it sometimes, like refer to my Dad (her Pop Pop) as Daddy or even my Mom as Mommy. Like when there are multiple kids around and you call them every name but their own, KWIM? If it bothers you, though, address it with her.

I find it strange. My mom loves being a grandma she absolutely doesnt want to be the mommy. She is always saying let grandma snuggle you or grandma loves you

It probably is an accident. Just tell her how you feel I am sure she will make an effort to not say mommy.

My MIL does this every now and then and it drives me mad. I have not confronted her because I think it's unintentional but I sometimes follow up with " did you hear what grandma said" and them repeat whatever she said and maybe add "momma thinks that's a good idea". I'm so passive aggressive! Lol

My mom has done it accidentally a couple of times like "bring the ball to mommy" or something like that. She also watches dd while I work. I don't think its a big deal, because its unintentional. She always says how dd reminds her so much of me when i was that age.

Also, I don't know if this applies to you but the whole being called grandma (nonna) thing was new to my mom, but she has been called mom and mommy for 30 years so sometimes I think it just slips out.

Not exactly but my mom will call me or come over & say "how's my baby today?"... I want to be like, uhh he came out of me not you lol. I appreciate her help but she can be a little too much sometimes. She has a comment about everything I do, I also can't get her to leave! I've had to start telling her I'm putting the baby to bed even when I'm not.. sometimes that works, other times I have to be more blunt "okay we're done now, you can go" Ugh, she is sweet but overbearing.

My my mom says "my baby."I think it's sweet, like he is ours. Saying mommy is a little strange. She might be getting mixed up, maybe? If you are uncomfortable, definitely say something.

I have done it accidentially with my neice
When you're so used to referring to yourself as Mommy - sometimes it slips ....

Beleive me, I'm the LAST person who'd do that deliberately

My dad does this..its a slipFrom being parents for so long,I guess once grandparent role goes on, it'll be easier

no but my sister did it 2x.
I brushed them off... but it made my blood boil. it seriously for a time, made me not want dd even around my sister alone. I spoke to my mom about it, and a couple of friends - to see if I was overreacting. I wasn't lol
then my sister was telling a story to her friends, ifo me, referring to how she called herself mommy and how funny it was blah blah.
I went OFF. she hasn't done it since.
not cool. you are the mom, that's that.

My mom has done it before, but I think it just slips out, old habits die hard, you know?

I can remember at least two instances when I said it to my niece when I was talking to her, on accident, just out of habit.

I caught MiL say that but she fixed it right away to grandma. Sometimes it seems as if she wishes dd were her daughter with some of the things she says and does. For example, she's bought dd outfits for some of her first holidays and even brought something to the hospital when dd was born and suggested it could be for her to wear home. That bothered me because of course I had already picked out outfits for dd for those occasions. I just keep putting dd in the putfits I got for her, hoping she'll get the hint. I always appreciate gifts for dd, but as a first time mom I get excited about picking out what she gets to wear for her first holidays. Shes also said she cant wait to teach dd how to put on makeup, which js something i would like to be the one to do. Sometimes stuff like that annoys me and sometimes I feel bad because she never had a daughter of her own. She always says that dd is like the daughter she never had. I want to say no, she's the granddaughter you never had.

It would depend on how she is. If my mom did that Id think it was a slip and I'd correct her and laugh it off. If MIL did Id be like um stop playing house with my kids. She acts more like they are hers so its annoying. She is great with them, but when she is here just visiting (not babysitting) she will jump and run if they cry, assume she is going to feed them and just try to take over for me like its her job to. At least my mom asks "can I feed them", "do you want me to get her".
