How much time to you give yourself...

when leaving the house with the kids or getting them dressed? Even trying to get them to leave somewhere like the park? playdate? etc?

LOL!

I feel like if we have to leave at 5 PM I have to start announcing it at 4:30. Takes forever to get them to stop what they're doing, clean up, another 10 mins or so to get them to sit still to get on one shoe only to have them get up and run around the house with one shoe. For some reason in that 5 minutes of even getting one shoe on the other gets MIA and manages to somehow appear in a toy bin or something.
Forget about leaving a playground or playdate. I have to do the 10 min warning, 5 min, etc. That 10 minute can be 45 mins.

They are good kids, but I have to do everything much earlier. DH sometimes doesn't get it. He is a last minute type guyl. Gotten better with kids, but doesn't understand why I have to start getting their shoes on 20 mins before we have to leave. Takes time to get in the car, seatbelt them in. Then they want to do it themselves so I have to wait.
Oh, and morning getting dressed is just as much fun. Arm goes through the head hole then they laugh and want to walk around like aliens. Finally get the shirt on and my older one doesn't like the underwear I picked while my two year old runs around with diapers.
Fun fun!

Re: How much time to you give yourself...

If I had to be out of the house by 5, I start getting the girls together around 4, sometimes even earlier.
I have to chase them and threaten them to let me
Do their hair and put their shoes on lol then once I get that done, they both have to go to the bathroom. Then while one is peeing the other takes her shoes back off and runs around. Then I wrestle her to get them back on. Then I have to make sure I have a sippies and an extra pull up for my younger DD.
I do all this, get them in the car only for
Them to take their shoes off and hair out before I reach the end of my block

They love to waste time and piss me off every.single.day

4:30 to leave at 5:00 sounds pretty darn good, especially with 2 mobile, independent children!!

When I said 4:30 I meant more like the time of trying to get their shoes on part. Probably more realistic it would be noon. Chat Icon
That's adding in getting ready, dressed, cleaning up, packing up, etc.

Leaving the house about 30 min but I am usually late. (The 3rd kid threw my OCD of always being on time out the window). This includes using the potty, changing diapers, fixing hair and getting shoes on and giving the baby a bottle.

However this doesn't include packing bags, making bottles or getting them dressed.

I only have one so We just grab him put the shoes on and go. But I always have a stocked diaper bag ready to go so I rarely have to pack up. I also don't worry about picking up the house. I only clean up toys during nap time and the end of the night. Its not worth it to me cause the minute he sees me putting something away he wants it and it starts an episode.

Re: How much time to you give yourself...

I try to have them dressed 30 min before the time we need to leave. I am a punctual person though. I am almost always the first person or second person at most events (birthday parties, playdates, playgroups).

Even when we run late (10-20 min), we still end up being one of the earlier people to arrive.
