No room for a nursery
Anyone else live in a small house/apartment and have no space for a nursery? How are you making it work?
We have the crib and dresser set up in a corner of our bedroom, and the dresser will have a changing pad on top. No room for exersaucers or swings. We have 3-in-1 a bouncer seat that converts into a bassinet and rocker, and we have a play mat which we'll keep in our (small) living room. That's about it for us.
The problem is that our house has no real storage and we need to keep an office because my architect husband has a lot of books and equipment that he needs for work. I am so sad that we can't give our little girl a nursery. We are trying to buy a bigger house right now and put ours on the market but I'm afraid we aren't going to get the price we need for it. I know people have children with a lot less and make it work, but I really just wish we could give her a room...

Re: No room for a nursery
Don't worry, your LO is not going to know that that don't have their own room for the first few months/years of their life. And it's not like they will remember that when they get older!
You got to just do the best you can with the space you have for now. All the baby really needs is a place to sleep, eat, and be loved

Re: No room for a nursery
Don't worry! When we had #1 we were in a 1 bedroom apt. Dd slept in our room for her first 2 years of life. We eventually bought a house which too was small and finally purchased our current home. nursery is not big at all since it use to be a walk in closet that he had to knock down a wall to make it a nursery(literally a crib can fit). She will spend her first several months in our room anyway.
They don't even know so I wouldn't worry.

Re: No room for a nursery
we have a house, but only 2 bedrooms upstairs, one is ds, and 2 down stairs but 1 is a play room, and the other an office with washer and dryer, i don't feel comfortable leaving the kids upstairs alone or one down stairs and one up, so for now DD will be in our room, and they might have to share a room for a while.

No room for a nursery
We have a 1 br and we made it work! Our son is 2 and we're lucky that our place is tight but manageable! He doesn't know the difference right now. We're just starting the process of looking for a bigger place.

Re: No room for a nursery
We have a 2br apt, but one room is all guitars and equipment, and my DH's recording stuff. He also teaches private students in that room, so we probably won't be using it much for the baby. We were going to use a co-sleeper from my SIL in the bedroom and a pack-and-play in the living room, until we figure out what we are going to do in the future.

Re: No room for a nursery
For the last 16 months dd has been without her own bedroom. It certainly isn't ideal but it works and she doesn't know the difference. She has one drawer of my dh's dresser for her clothes but otherwise all of her stuff is in the living room or strategically placed in the kitchen. Luckily we will be in our new home (small) by the time our second dc is born but really you just do the best with what you've got. Don't let it worry you.

No room for a nursery
My MOH lived in a 1BR when she had her first. Baby slept in a bassinet in their room, when she got too big they put her in a crib in their dining room. They made it work for as long as possible, but eventually did move to a bigger space.

No room for a nursery
Thanks everyone. I definitely think (especially on Long Island) people try to live above their means. It's true that we don't NEED the most of the things we want. I just get a little sad when I see all these adorable nursery pics and wish that I could set up a baby's room too! Oh well.

No room for a nursery
DD was in her crib in our living room for the first 18 months! And DC2 will be the same! We had the crib, changed her on a changing pad on our bed AND used a travel swing for everything else. Not only did it work out well, but I credit it with her being a great sleeper bc DH comes home late and would eat, watch TV and hang out right next to her crib LOL babies don't need much!
I will admit though, that for those 18 months I never opened up nursery posts and never looked at pictures, I was jealous!

It's natural...I feel like that from time to time, but I try to keep in mind that the baby doesn't care, the nursery is more for me. Eventually, we will have a bigger space and be able to able to do all the nice extra stuff, but for now, its just necessities, and that's okay!

Re: No room for a nursery
We had a one bedroom with 2 kids. DS #1 we had a little nook in our bedroom with a crib and a dresser. That was his nursery. All other baby stuff kept in the living room. DS #2 slept in the living room :) So don't worry they will not miss the nursery.
Regarding the extra items exersaucer etc, it there any furntiure you can move out of the living room so you can have him use it when the times comes. They will need toys, swing, etc.
