Would you be upset?

Would you be upset if a close and dear friend decided on the same name as your LO? Children would be in same social circle and be 2 yr apart.

Yea I think I'd be annoyed. So when u guys hang out together, you'll have to include the middle name when calling one of the children? Prob.

My cousin named her DD after my Dd a month after I had my DD. I was annoyed, and people questioned her. To make it worse its not a typical/common name.

Got over it.

Nah.. In my opinion, nobody owns a name. I wouldn't be upset if a friend wanted to use the name we chose. After all, I chose the name because I believe it's a great one! They may be in the same social circle as kids, but your name carries with you for life.

I could see MAYBE if it's the same family (if the family is close) ... but for friends? Even close friends. If a friend took the name that we like, I'd be really upset if that meant I 'couldn't' use that name! Just my opinion, of course! I can see both sides, I just honestly don't agree with one of them.

Not if its just a friend, but maybe a close family member, when DH and I were thinking of names for this LO, we always had a girls name picked, the boys name was a challenge, we finally decided on a name that we tolerated, but my cousins son who would be 5 years older then the baby had the same name, so we asked my cousin and his wife if they would mind, and they said no, but luck would have it, im having a so never had to deal with it.
I think friend is fine, and in the end, its just a name.

I think it depends what kind of name you've picked.

Is it common, fairly common, totally unique?

We named our DD a name that I think is becoming more popular -- so others might use it too. But her nickname is completely unique and if anyone close to us chose to use it they'd be completely ripping it off.

... but I'd just think they had cool taste.

I also think it depends on the type of name it is. If it's fairly common I wouldn't really care. If it was more unique I would be a little pissed.

Same. Wouldn't bother me at all, I would actually think it was sweet & I'd take it as a compliment that they like the name you chose. I don't think you have any right to be annoyed to be honest-- you don't have rights to the name any more than they do.

This exactly- and also wanted to add I have friends with the same name as ME and it doesn't bother me whatsoever nor does it impact my life.. I guess I just don't get what the big deal is. As long as you don't give conjoined twins the same name, who cares?

Nope. What if it is her favorite name? It's not fair to own names. The only exception would be a really super unique name and other person is stealing it from you.

Common name, no....original name maybe. I would be curious as to why. I love Isabelle. My friend has a DD named Isabelle she calls Izzy and my cousin has a dog named Isabelle lol. I don't care I LOVE the name and it was always going to be a name I used. I would not want to regret not naming my child a name I loved. We would call her Belle anyway so who cares.

My mom names me Shannon after her sister had a Shannon a year before. We are like best friends. Now Shannon and I are due 4 days apart and joke about naming both our girls the same name (we aren't of course). At least your friend thinks you have good taste.

If it was a close friend I think I'd probably appreciate a 'heads up' just to say, "we also love the name and want to use it for our DC too!" but in the end it wouldn't bother me.

I don't think it would really bother me if it was family too, except my SIL. we're not close at all so I would probably be annoyed if she 'pulled' something like that. I guess who it is matters but at the end of the day, I'm part of team no-one-owns-a-name so I say anyone should choose that they love.

No. If I love a name I am using it. A name is a name for life.

I would be annoyed but wouldn't say anything.

My cousin has a son two yrs older than my son and we used the same name, it is a family name for us and when she was naming her son I said if I ever have a son he will likely have the same name.

So yeah I might not love the idea but I would also understand that if someone loves a name they aren't going to not use it bc someone they know has the name.

No i wouldnt. No one owns a name. Sometimes two people may love the same name and one just has a kid before.
