When to set things up?

I'm 35 weeks and my basement is full of stuff from my baby shower. Seeing everything everywhere is making me antsy lol. (I'm guessing nesting is setting in because I would normally be fine with this).

I'm not sure if I (and by "I" i mean DH lol) should be opening and setting things (rock n' play, pack n' play, swing, bouncer) up now or on an "as need" basis.

I had DH set up stuff after our shower at 35 weeks too... We still have to do car seats and swing... I would start now so that it's not like overload later. I put away a lot of the small things myself. I figured that after the baby is born we are going to be so exhausted... The last thing my DH is going to want to do is set something up with a million pieces lol

When you're ready. On a day you have the time and energy.

Technically you might only be a few weeks away from going into labor so you want to be prepared.

Seriously, at 37wks I feel like a ticking time bomb! For all I know I could make it another 2 1/2 - or I could go tomorrow Chat Icon

To the OP - we set up all those things at like 34wks. My dh was off from work that week so it was a good time to get it all done. I don't think there's a right or wrong here....... just don't throw out the boxes yet in case you find the baby hates the swing, for example, and you want to return it.

ITA.

On a day where DH and I had a little zest in us, we set up items that we need right away. We had rec'd the crib and dresser so DH assembled that and for me, that was the "catalyst" to want to set other stuff up. His closet, clothes, changing pad with cover, diaper caddy with the stuff that goes in there (Desitin, etc). Then, we did 'stuff' - the swing - because you can use that from day one, the bassinet, the play mat - which can be a nice mat to lay on their back as well as tummy time, the infant car seat with bases, and a few other things - bottle sterilizer with bottles, bottle warmer, monitor, etc. We did the snap-n-go stroller because that will be used right away. In the garage are a few items we are waiting on: the regular stroller because we will use the snap-n-go for as long as possible, the excersaucer because he does need to be like 4 months plus for that, and the toddler car seats because we won't need them for a bit either.

We did set up the playard -- but our playard collapses VERY easily and folds up 1-2-3 and goes into a little holder/carrying case. So, that's in the coat closet in it's case but it literally takes 3 minutes to set the entire thing up -- so, we have it all out of the box and set to go, we set it up to see how it all goes together with the bassinet part and everything - but then we collapsed it fast and are keeping it in the closet.

So, we are pretty 'ready' considering we have everything we basically need when he first comes home... for the first few months. Everything else is in the garage "on deck" lol.

after the shower was when we got the ball rolling. I was 35 weeks. I had family help with washing all the clothes/blankets/towels etc... We had the car seat installed. Put together the bouncy seat. Set up the diaper caddy. Sheets, changing pad, all that.
