Anyone ever install a skylight in their home?
We were quoted low $5k's for 2 skylights and was wondering if this was a good deal. This company was a friend referral but I didn't feel that their work at our friends was that great. Their ceiling at the corner of their skylight install was kinda bumpy. But if this is a good deal, I suppose we could sand down the compound ourselves and paint to touch up. Thanks for any insight!

What size windows? Does that include trim work inside? Is the finish work wood trim, or just drywall? Did they give you a separated price for the windows and labor?

The price includes the windows and labor. There is no trim on the skylights in the ceiling.

Think long and hard about a skylight
pretty much everyone i know who's had one, has had a leak in them
i HATE ours and wish we never had it (it was in the house when we bought it). we've had several roofers out to look at it and no one can find the source of the leak.

Re: Anyone ever install a skylight in their home?
We had them in our foyer bumpout in the front of the house when we bought it, and loved them so much we made sure we had new ones installed when we had major reno done. We've been in the house for almost 17 years, and the old ones never leaked in the 13 years we had them, and the new ones haven't shown any signs of leaking after 4 years. I would definitely get them again.
They were installed as part of a large project, so I don't know how much they would cost as a retrofit.
