registries—how many items—?

so we all know that there are things we need: crib, stroller, car seat burp cloths, washcloths, etc...and then those "huh this is neat" items or well I don't really need this but I want it ha.

Of course I try not to put many of those items on there because I do want people to purchase the things I really need. How many items on your registry? Any idea of number of shower guests?

at babies r us they said for 40 guests you should have roughly 200 gifts on your registry....i laughed..
I can't even think of 200 things to get. I have about 90 total across two registries, but that includes 2 desitins, 2 vaselines etc.
i think it's what you'd like vs the number. I am constantly changing stuff and also trying to add a few things that i may need down the road vs right away.

I just went around the store and registered for all the things I needed and wanted. Afterwards I checked out my completed registry online to make sure there were enough things in various price points. I found amazon was helpful for looking up reviews.

I didn't really pay any attention to the numbers. Just tried to ensure I covered every single base imaginable. Could always get them afterwards with the completion coupon if necessary.

Only register for things that you need (you need a lot! Probably about 70 items give or take). Try to avoid the things that just look neat, or you think hey I might use that, or its not necessary but hey why not put it on there.... I've known many girls that filled their registry with tons of crap in addition to the must have/necessary items and wouldn't you know it they got all the crap for gifts and had to buy all the necessary stuff on their own. Now they have a house full of stuff they aren't even using. For example you don't need a crib, pack & play, rock & play sleeper, bassinet and Moses basket. My cousin registered for and received all of these and currently is only using the pack & play and rock & play sleeper with her newborn. My sister and I made a list of baby items needed for our other sister. She based her registry off that and got nearly everything she needed plus $250 worth of gift cards. She took the gifts cards and her completion coupon and bought the last odds and ends that she needed without having to send any $ out of pocket.

I have i think 145 im inviting 40 people.

I read something that said you should register for 4x as many gifts for the number guests you are inviting.
In the end though, i registered for what I needed and wanted. I think I registered for about 130 items. I invited 63 people and 42 are coming.
