Using more than one realtor when looking for a new home?
Has anyone used more than one realtor at the same time? Someone recently suggested this to me but I always assumed you could only work with one at a time.

No, but if you're looking for a recc, I highly recommend Beth Lowe from Exit Realty. We just used her and I can't say enough wonderful things about her.

I don't see how this would work? Is there some sort of advantage?

Re: Using more than one realtor when looking for a new home?
After seeing how much time and effort our realtor (Beth Lowe) put in for us I wouldn't recommend it, just because I think that's a crappy thing to do to them. I'd suggest you find a realtor you like and trust and stick with them.
But I also don't see the advantage of using more than one. If you're using a realtor already and feel like you need another one, maybe your realtor just isn't doing a very good job and it's time to move on.

Re: Using more than one realtor when looking for a new home?
We all have access to the same listings- so there really is no advantage to working with more then one
I only work with buyers as a buyers agent- if you shop around with multiplle realtors they will be representing the sellers not you- which is a huge disadvantage - for those that think they are getting a better deal going with the sellers agent- I can assure you are not
I always say my real work begins AFTER we find the house with my buyer clients- and it's totally true- getting you from the accepted offer to the closing table is the great test of my skills

I completely agree.
If you don't sign a contract with an agent, giving them the exclusive right to represent you, then you are technically free to use multiple agents. But I don't really see any advantage to you doing so. It would be far more advantageous for you to find a real estate agent that you "click with" and are comfortable with, and who you feel has the knowledge and experience to serve your needs. If you have one dedicated agent, they can get to know your criteria, and preview properties for you, keep an eye out for new listings, and maybe even get you into properties that aren't even listed. And if you have a buyer's agent, they can be your advocate from beginning to end, because there's a lot more entailed with buying home than just finding it. Having multiple agents would just create more hassle and confusion for you with no upside.
Also, if you do decide to use multiple agents, I would make it clear upfront to the agents you encounter that you are doing this, and that you don't intend to be loyal to one agent. Personally, I gladly go the extra mile for all of my clients and customers, and I invest a lot of time in my work, but I expect them to be upfront with me about whether they want to work with me!

We did, but only because we were looking at two completely different areas (in different counties).

Same. If I was only looking in one general area, I wouldn't have used two.
If you feel like you need another one, you should probably just find a new one.
