Re: What did you compromise on?
-a 2nd full bath (we have 1.5 baths) but we are putting that in next summer. We loved the house so much we put the offer in thinking it already had 2 full baths Wasn't till a couple days later that we found out its wasn't. - a flat property, we have a nice sized backyard which is great, but now we want to put in a pool and patio and everything is going to cost more money to do b/c we are on a slight slope. However everything else about the house is great. I would not compromise on bedroom number (had to have atleast 4), location, or school district. My husband had to have a garage and central air LOL. We got all our must haves which was most imp't.

Re: What did you compromise on?
We got super lucky - no compromises. I know in the future there's things we'd want different - island in kitchen, bigger house, etc..etc. But for now, this is exactly what we wanted and more.

What did you compromise on?
No basement.
Everything else was pretty much exactly what I wanted- big kitchen, all bedrooms upstairs, pool, lots of storage, great S.D, low taxes...but I had to do without the basement.

What did you compromise on?
We compromised on backyard space. Our last home had a huge backyard and this one doesn't.

Re: What did you compromise on?
We wanted 2 bathrooms and got 1.5
Would have liked a finished basement Would have liked a bigger back yard Would have liked a newer home with all sheet rock and none of this god forsaken plaster

Re: What did you compromise on?
We just closed on our dream home a few weeks ago. It has everything we wanted and more. We got an amazing deal on it. With that said, the place was a mess. It was NOT move-in ready. It was dirty inside and out and the property needs a major overhaul. Its almost an acre of land! That was not a deal breaker for us, though it can be for many others. Luckily DH loves outdoor work and is up for the challenge. We scrubbed the walls before painting them because they were disgusting, then painted practically every room in the house (still a work in progress), re-carpeted the 2nd floor, had the exterior power-washed, and installed new pvc fencing. It looks amazing compared to the day we closed.
I guess my point is, just because a house may be in less than desirable condition, if you can get a good price on it and has all or most of what you want, you can clean it! It just takes a little work.

Re: What did you compromise on?
2nd bathroom - knowing we had the perfect spot to add one which we have done
4th bedroom - we don't "need" it but wanted it. We knew we can dormer someday if we have the $$ to do so.
size of the house - to get the location and schools we wanted, its not quite as large as we would have like. but we have maximized the space nicely

Re: What did you compromise on?
We got a corner property. I would have preferred a couple houses in. We pay a little more in taxes than I wanted too. Still super happy.

Re: What did you compromise on?
Wanted but DIDN'T get: At least 3 bedrooms, technically it is 2 BR (post reno). More property, but got 40 x 100 as is pretty standard in Floral Park. Attached garage Move in condition (TOTAL fixer-up gut job)
Wanted and got: Location! To be in Floral park! SD CAC Fireplace back porch hardwood floors 2 full baths basement garage (not attached though) Price so we could do reno IGS Taxes around $10K or lower Gas - wouldn't even look at homes with oil

Re: What did you compromise on?
I settled for a kitchen that is way too small, and also for 1.5 bathrooms instead of 2. My DH didn't compromise on anything! He got his garage, basement, and nice-sized backyard!

What did you compromise on?
Unfinished basement (although its not horrible) and location. We are right across the street from a less than savory neighborhood. We bought here because its a completely redone 2 family and its part of a little section of the neighborhood that is being built back up by the same developer. We are hoping that changes the neighborhood some. We also compromised on a 2 family...we just couldn't afford something nearly as nice in a one family. We are hoping to use the equity from this house down the road to buy our dream house.
