When are Baptisms usually done?
I feel like my family has varied so much on this. Is there a time frame set by the Catholic Church?

Oh and do we contact the church before or after the baby is born?

When are Baptisms usually done?
DS was baptized at 10 weeks old, but it varies. There was a little girl that looked about 3 years old that was baptized with him. I contacted the church after he was born.

There is no time frame. We baptized DD at 11 months for various reasons. And there were babies of all ages there. And we called the church about a month before we wanted to have her baptized.

It's a personal choice for when. We baptized our DD at 4 months. The bulletin said to call 3 months before the baby is due but when I did they said to call back after she was born.

Thanks! We're interfaith so I better start the dialogue with the priest early. Of course boy or girl will change things tremendously.

My church says to call when you are 4 months pregnant which seems early. My friends a priest in a different church so I might call just to get that all in line. I am guessing they tell you to call before baby is born because some churches like mine require you to be registered with the parish in order to baptize baby there. Everyone I have spoke to have called after the baby was born though.

i called the church after the baby was born to set a date... they also told us of a baptism class we had to attend... my DS was 3.5 months when he was baptized. You can do it whenever, i saw older kids being baptized as well.

We had our son baptized a little over a month after he was born. We did it for our own scheduling.
I would call your church and see if you can take the class before the baby is born- it's way easier with scheduling.

When are Baptisms usually done?
DS was baptized around 12 weeks. I remember it was right before I returned to work following my maternity leave. I don't think there's any hard and fast rule for it.

I'm due in Dec and we're aiming on baptizing our DC towards the end of March. One of my friends (who has a DD) suggested we start planning the Christening ahead of time, especially if we plan on having a large party b/c she waited until her daughter was born and then when the time came for her to book the party, all the halls she wanted were unavailable and she had to have it at a place where she really didn't want to.

We did it at 6 mons. You can do it whenever you want.
We wanted to be able to have the party in the backyard so we waited. It really does not matter.
