Question for nurses who work in hospitals

I know I'm full of questions today. I'm a nurse and work in a community hospital in eastern Suffolk. I called HR to see if any of our plans cover more extensive fertility treatments like IVF and of course they don't. I have united healthcare but my plan only covers IUI and all the testing and corrective procedures but not IVF or GIFT etc... I was just wondering for those other nurses out there does your employer fully cover your IVF? Thanks

Question for nurses who work in hospitals

I have UHC too but it covered my IVF cycles. I didn't do IUI's since it wouldn't help based on my Dx for infertility but it did cover IVFs

Re: Question for nurses who work in hospitals

Insurance is very employer specific. My current and previous employers only covered what was required by NYS. My DH's policy covers more, but that might be because they are an international company and need to have coverage required by states that are friendlier towards infertility treatment.

Re: Question for nurses who work in hospitals

Hey.... I have Oxford UHC and while IUIS are virtually unlimited as long as the MD deems them possibly successful, IVF is only covered for a portion. We get 5K to be put towards either procedures OR medications. However, once you choose a delegation, you can not switch it to the other. We have chosen to pay OOP for medicated IUI cycles (clomid, HCG, Progesterone) in an effort to save the 5K for if we need IVF....

When I initially called to check out coverage, my RE said I was not at all covered for IVF but that was not the case...

I am sure there are lots of UHC plans, but this was true for me as well. My insurance covered 3 cycles either IUI or IVF in ANY combination. When I consulted with my dr, he felt that IVF was out best option based on my dx.

I called UHC directly to see what they covered bc HR really didn't know.
