Spin off: Car seats
For the cars seat you are registering for after your infant car seat are you registering for 2? For the infant car seat we are registering for one and a base but I am not sure what you do about the car seat they use when they out grow that one. Do you just register for one?

i registerd for one and then honestly ended up returning it and buy it later. i didnt want to waste a whole year of the car seat not being used since they expire.
I did end up buying a second car seat though so it can be used in my moms car or DH which is rarley done.

Some people register for an infant car seat and a convertible car seat. I didn't because I figured by the time DS was old enough to be in a convertible... they might have updated the safety features etc.
On the flipside, it certainly helps out financially if someone gets it for you as a gift.
In terms of registering for an infant car seat, you definitely just need the car seat (this comes with a base) and an extra base for say a second car.

we registered for an infant seat (chicco keyfit) and the convertible- britax marathon. THis was with my ds- he wasnt a big kid but he was in the convertible by 6 months because teh infant seat was just too heavy to lug him around in
I'd register for it all!

With DS, we only registered for one, but I would suggest two. If you get it, you get it which is one less thing for you to buy
