Re: talk to me about Reykjavik
Went this past Mach - LOVED it! Seeing the Northern Lights was on the bucket list for both me and DH. - totally amazing! We booked a package through Iceland Air. (Got some great advice and tips from Mill188 on here, who had also been there). The city of Reykjavik is very cute and has a definite European feel. Some areas are quaint with cobblestone streets and then there are some very new modern buildings. To just see the city itself, one to two days is plenty. Outside of the city, I would highly recommend doing the Golden Circle tour and Blue Lagoon. We also went snowmobiling on a glacier! If you are going in the summer, you can probably do some things that we couldn't do in the winter like whale watching and seeing the puffins. Its so easy to do the tours - the city is really set up to make it easy for tourists and everyone speaks English. Everything is fairly expensive - pretty much Manhattan prices.
We left on a Wed night (arrived in Iceland on Thurs morning. Thursday we were exhausted, so really just walked around a little bit and went to dinner). We came back home the following Tues. That was more than enough time - coming home on Mon would have been ok too, but I was glad we had the extra day.
Feel free to ask any questions. Its definitely a great trip and I would love to go back!

Where did you stay? This is something I have been looking into forever and am debating going it solo with a girlfriend of mine or waiting till the kids are older and taking them. I have always wanted to see the blue lagoon!

We stayed at the Hotel Center Arnvenhol (sp? - and definitely don't ask how to pronounce it ). It was very modern and clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is included daily. Its about 2-3 blocks from the "main strip" in the city, and right across from the water, so we had a beautiful view. But, the rooms are super teeny tiny (the bathroom was smaller than a cruise ship bathroom - didn't think that was even possible!). We were ok with the room, but a little more room would have been nice. I would recommend the hotel - as long as you can deal with a tiny room.
The blue lagoon was awesome! I say go now with friends and go back when your kids are older (the package we got really wasn't too expensive - about $1400 pp incl airfare, hotel for 5 nights, breakfast and one northern lights excursion /w dinner). But, food etc is pretty pricey when you get there.
