Middle names
I love the idea of using a middle name after a family member, but none of them seem to go with the names we like. Plus I don't want to pick one name and then offend someone else because we didn't pick theirs.
Just curious what everyone else is doing.

Re: Middle names
My 2 dds both have middle names after people in our family...this baby, I don't really like any of our family options with the first name we chose...we are debating picking a middle name we don't love to make dh's grandma happy vs. picking a name we love...

Re: Middle names
My middle name is also my mom's, grandma's and great-grandma's middle name so we're going to use it if we have a little girl.
DH liked the idea of passing down a middle name so we will be using his middle name if we have a little boy.

Middle names
We are having a girl and are leaning toward the names Isla, Mila, and Lilyanna. We originally had liked Grace as a middle name with all 3. But I feel like naming her after one of our moms or grandmothers is more special. We are fortunate to have all 4 of our grandmothers alive, so any of them would be touched by it.
Our moms names are Monica and Kathleen. Our grandmothers are Margaret, Mary (my middle name), Estelle, and Betty (which I guess is really Elizabeth but no one calls her that) Do any of those go?

You could use Kat or Kate for short of Kathleen, not sure if it has the same meaning to you if you shorten it.
Honestly...middle names are hardly used or spoken, so I think it's ok if it "doesn't go"

Re: Middle names
DD1's middle name (Yvette) is after my Grandmother and DHs grandmother (they had the same very uncommon name).
DD2's middle name is something I just liked (Noel).
I have no idea what we are naming this child- but if it's a boy I'd like the middle name to be my Dad's name. He'd like the middle name to be HIS dad's name (my FIL is deceased). My argument is that both of our nephews have his father's name as a middle name- my father has no sons or grandsons (yet...) and he does sooo much for us. I'd love to honor that.
I will probably win that battle.

I think Kathleen or Elizabeth go with any of those names. I agree- I don't think it HAS to "flow" unless you plan on using it daily.

Re: Middle names
I actually just talked to DH about this last night. I was very close to my Grandma and she died about 3 years ago. I want to use her name as a middle. It was Diana so depending on the first name we choose I suggested we use that or shorten it to Dee (that is what my Grandpa used to call her).
I was nervous he would feel slighted using a family name on my side but his grandma is still alive. I kind of feel like it's a way for the baby to have a connection to someone they are never going to meet.
On a side note I'm sure my MIL will have an opinion about it

Re: Middle names
We are using family names.
My mother's name is Rose so that works with most girl names, and my FIL is William which also works well so we are lucky in that respect.

DD middle name is Rose after DH grandmother
DS middle name is Vincent after my Brother (my other brother had just died and my sister used his name as her DS first name--are kids are 2 days part--. Vincent was doing everything and taking care of everyone so i wanted to honor him).
This one will have my dad's first name has his middle name.
i didnt feel obligated to. All 3 are just b/c we liked them and wanted to.

Middle names
The names we have picked out are just names we like. None of them are related to family members in any way.

Re: Middle names
Our middle name is after DH grandmother If it was a the middle name would be after my grandfather. But we both liked the names anyway so it was an easy choice.
DH name is Paul, and he was named after his aunt Paula. Are there any names in your family that can be shortened like that or names that have a opposite sex comparison? Like Christopher/Christine or Michael/Michelle

This is what we're doing as well.
My middle name is the same as my mom's, which was my gma's nickname. If we one day have a girl this will be her middle name too.
For our LO in the making, his middle name will be the same as my DH's, his dad's, and his grandfathers.

Re: Middle names
Probably going to use for a middle name DH's first name which is also my FIL's first name. We didn't want a junior. If I ever have another boy, I'd use my dad's name as his middle name.

Re: Middle names
Our son will have my brother's name as his middle name - it also happens to be my father's name and a dear friend of DH's name - who was also a friend of mine. So, all-around, a great name and we have known so many wonderful people with this name. I don't really have advice regarding not using a family name since we are. Other than that name and my grandmother's name (which will be the middle for our first girl, if we have one) I would have just chosen a name we liked. Maybe with the next boy, if there is one, I would do DH's name as the middle name - that would be nice.
When it comes to names, whether it is a first name or a middle name, you just have to do what you want, what your heart says, and if you want to honor a family member, friend, etc. then do it - whether they are alive or dead, they mean or meant something to you -- if you want to choose to do something else, then follow your gut
