Protocol n obgyn office
I was wondering if every office is the same... In my Office you see all the Dr.'s who work in the office and you cannot choose who delivers. Is this the same in all offices. I really would like to work with one Dr., the one who will be delivering. I understand a on call person is needed for emergencies, vacations or if they are sick but I don't want to work with my my Dr. The entire pregnancy and then someone else deliver the baby!

Re: Protocal in obgyn office
This is how it was in my old office. I met with one dr for most of my visits, but towards the end I had an appt which each of the others in the practice. In the end, one of the other doctors did my c-section.

I meet with my dr for all appts but in the end you have zero say who delivers unless it's a planned c-section or induction. That's just how it is. You can't expect your dr to be on call 24/7 just to be avail to deliver your baby.

Re: Protocol n obgyn office
That's how it is in my office. Luckily my moms the office manager so I have some pull and know who will deliver me If you get induced or a c section you can usually pick the day the doctor is on. If you go into labor naturally then you get who is on call that day.

This is how it is where I go too. You don't know who will be on call the day you give birth and so it's important to see everyone at least once.
Even if you go somewhere where you're working with one doctor, I imagine there are times that they are on vacation, out sick, dealing with other patients, etc that would still require an on-call doctor to see you just in case.

I don't expect that... I am aware there are Other Dr.'s on call in case something comes up and my Dr. Cannot but shouldn't it be like that? It's your Dr. That delivers unless something comes up. I guess I'm wrong...

Protocol n obgyn office
My ob office only has 2 doctors that deliver. They have doctors at the hospital that deliver for them if one of them isn't on call. When I delivered DS neither one was on call and a doctor I had never met until that day was supposed to deliver, but my OB ended up coming in. I knew it was a possibility that he would not deliver and it could be someone I never met and I was ok with that.

Re: Protocol n obgyn office
I am seeing a midwifery so I meet with all the midwives because any one of them could be on call for my delivery. I like them all so it's no biggie to me.

If your doctor is not on call that day they are usually in the office having office hours then they go home. They don't spend all their free time waiting for their patients to go into labor. If you want a certain doctor then you should look into a single practice office. I know my office often delivers some of their babys if the doctor cant get there in time or that's why they often have longer waits in office because they have to leave to deliver a baby. Each type of practice has their positives and negatives. See what works best for you and what your most comfortable with.
I know Jessica Jacobs in NHP is a solo practice and is super nice!

If that is the office dynamic that you are looking for, then you should find a solo practitioner. I use an office of 2 OBs. I make my appts with whichever I'd like and whoever is on call delivers me. There of course is a chance that neither of them will be available for delivery, but likely not. I know I personally would not like a bigger practice.

In my OB office there are 2 doctors that does deliveries. If neither one of them are on call they have 3 other covering doctors at 2 other practices they work with.
Hopefully I make it to my scheduled csection date so my primary delivers me, but luck is not really on my side since I delivered my last 2 preterm.

Yes, generally. I went to an office with 5 Drs, though, so any of them could have been on call when I was in labor. As my luck would have it, I had my DC on the day NONE of them were on call and had a Dr from some other practice that I had never met deliver my last one. Luckily, she was awesome.

Wow that is uncommon I think. I think usually with larger practices (mine has 4) One is always on call. Like I said before my mom is the office manager there and I remember there's never been a time one of them wasn't on call. There has been few times when a patient delivered on their way to l & d or what not. Glad you ended up with an awesome doctor!!

Right? I couldn't believe it! That being said, since I delivered, I have heard of several other girls this happened to with the same practice.

My office and another office are on call for each other, so it's possible someone from the other office will deliver.
