Anyone ever do a 24 hour urine?
Some protein showed up in my urine when I was at L&D on Thursday night from swelling in my right hand. Today my hand is finally back down but now my feet are blown up. I had to do a 24 hour urine test and dropped it back off at LIJ at noon today. When I asked "how long will it take to get the results and will someone call?" I response I got was "your doctor will call you". Which KINDA answered my question. I know it's Saturday but I was hoping because it's a hospital I would get the results faster since I'm sure their lab doesn't close since they have to constantly run tests.
So my question is, has anyone ever done a 24 hour urine test and dropped it off at a hospital? If so, how long before your doctor called you? I have an appt on Monday but I'd rather not wait that long. MY BP was PERFECT at L&D so I'm sure it's nothing but I'd really rather not guess.
TIA!

Re: Anyone ever do a 24 hour urine?
I was given the jug to collect urine for 24 hours at my due date office visit (April 15th), which happened to be a Friday. My blood pressure was really high and my Dr wanted to induce me that day, but I was adamant about trying to go on my own. I went home and was told to bring it to the hospital on Sunday Morning. I happened to go into labor on my own and headed to the hospital ANYWAY on Sunday early morning (2am). I brought my jug with me and handed it over to the nurse in L&D....it wasn't more then 3 hours later that my Doctor came in and told me that if I hadn't gone on my own, he'd be inducing me on Monday because the lab came back showing there was protein in my urine.
SO...although the Dr never officially called me, I'd say, they have the results pretty quickly....in my experience anyway. I think being he would have induced me, he probably would have called me Sunday during the day, but that is only my assumption based on what happened!

Thank you! Hopefully my doctor calls me tomorrow. I don't think I can wait until Monday afternoon. I'm not sure if it was my doctor who wanted the 24 hour urine or just the hospital. I mean I was at the hospital but I don't know if they called my doctor with the results of my urine at L&D so she wanted it done. Here's hoping that everything is ok and that I find out tomorrow.

I wound up in L&D and they had me do the 24 hour urine sample as well. I had to drop it off at my usual lab (not the hospital) and they sent the test results to my doctor. It didn't take long at all to get the results. Maybe a day or two?

Anyone ever do a 24 hour urine?
i did the 24hr and dropped it with my dr on a monday morning. they called the next morning and sent me to the hospital for pre-e. at 32w i was there until i delivered but i only lasted 5 days. i had pretty bad pre-e which developed into HELLP so i had to have an emergency c-section at 33w1d.
i did not have high BP when i did the 24 hour. actually i did not have high BP really much at all, even in the hospital. only on the day i delivered and the day after was it high and even then it was only borderline high. just so you know pre-e can happen without high BP being the prime indicator. if you have protein and swelling those are significant signs even without the high BP. the level of protein in the 24hr will be a big sign as to whats normal and what could be pre-e. for me, the level was about 3x normal so thats why i was sent straight to the hospital. i actually felt pretty normal at the time and thought they were just being cautious; in retrospect i had many "minor" signs that i didn't connect the dots; so it ended up being a great thing that my doctor was cautious.
good luck!
