House hunting while pregnant. Please tell me I'm not totally crazy.
DH and I had a bit of an epiphany last night and decided to resume our house hunt (which stopped just about a year ago). We are looking in a different, more affordable area. Our goal is to be in contract (and maybe even close) before the baby comes (due date is Oct. 18th). In the meantime when our lease ends we will live with ILs for a bit. I know this is a bit crazy but....anyone who has done something similar tell me I'm not a total loon for doing this!!!!!

Re: House hunting while pregnant. Please tell me I'm not totally crazy.
We continued house hunting while I was preggo and had a bit of a disaster - with a happy ending.
We found a house and were supposed to go into contract and in the meanwhile we sold the house we were living. Unexpectedly the house we were buying fell though due to the owners not having the proper paperwork done. Since our house was sold and in contract we had to move forward with the sale and ended up moving into me in-laws. My in-laws have been extremely helpful through out this process. Recently we found a beautiful house in Bayside and we are in contract! We do not move in until the end of July which is fine with me since the baby is due in a couple of weeks so I will have my inlays to help out for the first month or so.

Re: House hunting while pregnant. Please tell me I'm not totally crazy.
We found a house when I was 3 months pregnant. Went in to contract, which took a while, and closed about 2.5 months before I was due. The closing was delayed a lot, which was frustrating, but it all worked out in the end. The hardest part for me was being very pregnant and not being able to move/lift much. If you have the help or can higher a moving company then I say go for it!

Yup we are too! Not hunting anymore- we actually found a house we love... But just to warn you- the hunting is the easy part!! We are trying put our house on the market- that is extremely stressful! We have to keep our house spotless because people will be coming in to look at it even while we're at work which is not an easy task when you're NOT a morning person and usually leave the house with a cereal bowl still in the sink, an unmade bed, and clothes thrown about the room!
Also trying to get a mortgage so we can buy this house is stressful too! Plus wondering if we are able to afford it. But we can't really fit a baby in our little 2 bedroom ranch. We had hoped to add an upstairs but that would be insane too!

Re: House hunting while pregnant. Please tell me I'm not totally crazy.
I did it and lived to tell the tale.
I was due on 9/5. We signed the contracts early June and then because of one thing and the next--owners decided to vacation to Greece for a month over the summer, etc--we didn't close until 9/22...when DD was two weeks old.
Packing up while very pregnant during a hot summer was NO problem for me. But everything that happened from my DD's birth to when we moved in (Hello! The DAY before her christening!) on October 15 was miserable. My DH spent a lot of the three weeks post-closing painting every room of the house, refinishing stuff, etc. while I was almost entirely alone...at least that's how it felt. I missed out on the excitement of closing because I sat there worried about my newborn and very uncomfortable in my skin between ill-fitting clothes and enormous boobs! I couldn't help paint but I would sometimes walk between the old house and the new with my new DD screaming every step of the way! Then I couldn't help move...although I did sneak away to the attic with a beer for a few peaceful moments.
You must know though that I had zero experience with babies and just about zero help add that to the timing of everything, hormones, baby blues, etc and it was the perfect storm of...ugh, I don't know what! But as I said, I lived to tell the tale and almost eight years later, I'd do it all again for my house...ummmm...probably.
Good luck!!

Nope. Lots of people do it. I was 8 weeks at closing and about 16 weeks when we moved. Better to get stuff done before baby comes.

Re: House hunting while pregnant. Please tell me I'm not totally crazy.
definitely not crazy, when we were having DS, we were in a beautiful 1 bedroom apt, we needed obviously more room. So we put in a request when i was 3 months pregnant to get a 2 bedroom, we got the 2 bedroom, and moved in the week before he was born. We did it, no problem, you definitely not crazy. Hope you find something right away!!!!

I think that shouldn't be a problem so long as you find something you both like in a timely manner. Finding a house might not be the problem is all the annoying paperwork with the mortgage insurance, banks and lawyers that slows the process down. That normally takes 3 months. When DH and I bought our home our offer was accepted at the end of August and didn't close until November (a week after thanksgiving) we moved in 2 weeks later.

We did it...no big deal. Just so you know, it won't get any easier to house hunt with an infant/toddler.
We made offer at 4 months, closed at 8 months, moved in 1 week before DD was born!

Us too. We are currently in contract but we haven't received a closing date as of yet. We are hoping to close at some point mid to late July. Baby is due in August.

Re: House hunting while pregnant. Please tell me I'm not totally crazy.
I was about 6 weeks when we closed.
have yet to move in because of all the work we're doing
but we thought it would be better to get it done now before the baby.
I would def go for it now. If you're dedicated to the hunting (like go as much as you can), I don't see why you couldn't find something ny October.
We started looking in late October and were in contract by Christmas

Re: House hunting while pregnant. Please tell me I'm not totally crazy.
We house hunted while I was pregnant. We would have closed a month before dd was due, but she came two months early. So we closed while she was still in the nicu, then moved into the house about a month after she came home. Moving with a newborn is really hard. We had a 1br apt to pack & my mom basically did all of it for us. Our situation is kinda extreme though, but we survived. We hired a cleaning service, had the rugs cleaned by the pros, & had to pay a painter bc we werent able to do those things ourself, but it all worked out. Defin hire movers!

Re: House hunting while pregnant. Please tell me I'm not totally crazy.
I did this! We found our house when I was about 8 weeks, in December, we closed in April, I was about 6 months along, my poor husband had to basically move everything!!! But we are in, the baby's room still isn't done, and she will be here in 25 days, but it was fine, and really the only difference between doing it pregnant and not pregnant, is maybe I would have been a little more helpful, but I doubt it :)

I think you'll be fine. Remember, everyone says that your life doesn't stop when your pregnant or if you're trying to get pregnant. Buying a house is part of life.
We started looking in Jan 12', found a house in Feb, closed in May, moved in on Fathers Day last year.

Re: House hunting while pregnant. Please tell me I'm not totally crazy.
We started house hounting shortly after we found out we were pregnant (March maybe) and DS was due in late October (came earlier). We saw about 30-35 houses before finding the one we wanted. I will say that both Saturdays and Sundays were all about house hunting for weeks. Negotiations took about 2 weeks and the we went into contract. Closed end of June, DS came early Oct. At that point we were already settled. Definitely doable but I'd get started asap.

We did it. We started hunting in Dec, found our house in March, but didn't close until June because of our lease. I Didn't even go the closing because it was 9 days after I gave birth. We moved when DS was five weeks old.

Re: House hunting while pregnant. Please tell me I'm not totally crazy.
We are closing on June 10th - I'm six months along.
I'll be moving in in the end of June, dead summer, and getting everything unpacked and settled the entire months of July and August - doing the baby's room and all of that, while 7,8,9 months pregnant So, no, not nuts and plenty of people do this. Just try to keep a level head - it's SO hard!!
And try not to overdo it, which is equally hard.
