Totally confused over my cousin? Miscarriage related

So my cousin is late again for her period. She had a BETA done on Friday and then she told me today that she was spotting, had one large gush and then just some spotting. She said that her cramps were REALLY bad this weekend too. She got the phone call from her dr's office a few hours ago and they told her she was pregnant. She told them what happened this weekend and they told her she had a miscarriage. I should say when she went for her BETA it was also her yearly exam so the doctor did an internal and told her that she didn't see any blood so she didn't know where the spotting was coming from.

Now I'm TOTALLY confused. I mean her doctor is the one who went to med school so she shouldn't listen to me but shouldn't the doctor ask her to come in so she can check her out. I've heard plenty of stories where there is spotting and cramps and the baby is just fine. Also, how does the dr know she passed it all on her own. I keep trying to tell my cousin that it's not adding up but she just won't insist on seeing the doctor and is just listening to the nurse on the phone. Can anyone educate me in this? Am I missing something? When I had my MC my dr checked my BETA to make sure it went down to 0. My doctor also checked my blood type (I was always told I was A positive and it turns out I am AB negative). Should I just let this go or should I tell her to insist on seeing the doctor? She says she's scared to know if something is wrong with her, but for me, if something is wrong I would want to know so I could fix it. This is the second time this has happened. She was 2 weeks past her period due date.

In my experience, whenever I've had a miscarriage they've done blood work to make sure that my BETA is back to zero...or I think less than 5 is not pregnant. They do this to make sure that you have passed everything naturally. My RE told me that even a minuscule piece of tissue left behind could still give off enough HCG to keep your body from resetting itself. IMO she should follow up on this, and perhaps find a doctor that was a little more concerned.

I don't have any experience with this, but if someone tried to tell me I had a miscarriage over the phone I would not be happy with that. I would def want to see some proof or something

Anytime a miscarriage is possible or happening further testing should be done to make sure the beta goes down to zero. Just because she bled and had a gush doesn't necessarily mean she had a m/c. Bleeding during pregnancy could be the cause of dozens of things. She definitely should be seen again. She could also take an HPT to see if the line is still coming up.

she does not have to see the doc but he should fax a script to have her blood drawn at a quest etc

I've been going through a similar situation with someone in my life who said she had a miscarriage. I felt so awful (and a little guilty for being pregnant). But what didn't make any sense to me is she didn't call her doctor or get seen and is waiting almost a week for her next appt to get checked. I just couldn't understand that.

I always had to get BETA tests done. Normally once you bleed the numbers are back down, but they still always made sure. I hope shes ok, and hope she gets checked out, but i wouldnt force the issue since its such a hard time for everyone and we all react differently.
