I'm so swollen-- I'm scared! UPDATED & thank you!
31 weeks & all of a sudden last night my toes turned pink, then my feet & ankled swelled up to double their size, and I have deep grooves in my feet where you can see dark patches of purple veins.. yuck! It looks freakish but I don't care about that, I just am worried that this isn't normal! My feet & legs actually hurt a lot & I can't wear socks or shoes. They've been throbbing on & off.
Today I've been drinking water like crazy, I wore compression socks up to my knees & other than my commute I've kept my feet up. I came home & they are still the same as yesterday!
Does this mean something bad?? What causes this out of the blue like that? Anything else I can do?? I'm nervous it means there's something wrong. My blood pressure has been low to normal this entire pregnancy but I've heard swelling can have to do with blood pressure problems.
Thanks!!
UPDATE: I called my OB & he said it's probably normal swelling.... it's definitely gotten a little bit better in the past 2 days because I've been elevating my feet even when I sleep & also trying to drink a lot. My mom is a nurse so she came over & took my blood pressure & it was 90/50 so it doesn't seem to be related to high bp. The doctor said to come in if I start having headaches, chest pain, or my face or arms/hands swell up a lot too. So far none of that, just annoying trying to find something to wear on my feet!
Thanks again for helping calm me down!! Hopefully this will resolve itself & if not I'll just have to deal with it for 2 more months.

I agree with the other girls...call your doctor ASAP. Don't get too worried but it can be caused by BP problems but you just want to make sure it's nothing like that or anything in that area. ALWAYS TO BE SAFE THEN SORRY!

severe swelling can be a sign of pre-eclampsia. did you gain weight with the swelling? i gained about 9lbs in 2 weeks and another 5 in a few days. when i walked it felt like my legs weren't going into my feet - its like they were going into pools of jello. i also saw floaters and had lots of protein in my urine when i went to the OB. i was admitted to the hospital with pre-e which ballooned into HELLP syndrome and i delivered my DD at 33w1d. even though i had pre-e my BP actually was borderline normal for quite awhile, even when i was in the hospital.
i would def call your doctor in the morning. i thought my swelling was normal and i didnt think twice about other symptoms. i felt fine. i most definitely wasnt fine. keep an eye out for other symptoms of pre-e that may include headaches, upper stomach area pain (almost like a cramping feeling but up under your ribcage and mid-back), seeing floaters or have vision disturbances. good luck; its prob nothing but it cant hurt to call.

Thanks everyone. I didn't want to be alarmist or make a big deal over nothing, but it sounds like something I definitely need to give attention to. I'll call the ob in the am & see what he thinks!

My OB just told me at my last appt (29 wks) that if there are any signifcant changes from this point on to call the office immediately. Better to be safe than sorry. Good luck! I hope it's nothing serious.

Glad you are ok! Seems you are doing everything you need to do with the swelling. SIL had severe swelling and none of her shoes fit. She ended up going to Old Navy and getting flip flops that were a size bigger then what she usually wears (since they are $2 each she didn't care about spending the money). Her mom also went and bought slippers. They were SUPER comfy for her and fit her swollen feet.
