haven't been to either yet but Istanbul is at the top of my list. As for Egypt, I'd be really careful as a woman traveling there right now. Two of my good friends are Egyptian and both are too afraid of whats happening there as of late to go back anytime soon.

From what I've heard, Egypt is not safe right now.
Turkey is supposed to be amazing, my coworker went last year & raves about it! Sounded like an awesome trip.

Re: Egypt and/or Turkey

I stayed in Istanbul for a couple of days on my way back from Bangladesh back in December. It's a beautiful city and I really hope to get there again - though in warmer weather (it was chilly when we went, but it was kind of a 'free' trip on our way back from Bangladesh - we flew on Turkish Air so it didn't cost anything extra on our flights to add a few days in Istanbul and we used cc points for a hotel stay).

There is so much to see...it's also a very 'walkable' city. Everywhere you turn is another beautiful mosque, stunning architecture, and stuff to buy...and people will try to sell you something everywhere you go, so just be prepared for that!

The food is great, but don't make the same mistake I did in eating unpasturized cheese! LOL...didn't sit quite well with me.

Two words: TURKISH. BREAKFAST.
You will scoff at the idea of an American brunch after experiencing a true Turkish breakfast spread. :)

There are cats everywhere in the city - dogs, too...I'm an animal lover and in many of my pictures from my trip that aren't deliberately of the stray cats, you can see cats in the background. If you're not an animal person, no fear, they do leave you alone.

As for Egypt, I have a friend who is teaching there right now and has packed her things to leave...the unrest in the country is too much for her, and she will be leaving for another teaching gig elsewhere within the next couple of weeks. She was there for a few years so this was not a decision she made in the heat of the moment...it was just too much to deal with.

About a year & half ago I want on a cruise that stopped in Istanbul & Kusadasi.

I loved it! I would love to go back & spend more time in Istanbul.

I didn't spend too mush time in Kusadasi, we mostly spent time at the ancient ruins of Ephesus & went to the small Bazaar in Kusadasi.

My in-laws went to Egypt about 10 years ago & enjoyed it, but they were accompanied by armed guards at times & wouldn't go back now.

I would speak to a travel agent & look at the state department website if you are uncertain about which countries are safe to travel to.

Egypt and/or Turkey

On my honeymoon cruise we stopped in Istanbul and Kusadai. I would go again in a heartbeat. Istanbul was by far my favorite port.
