An emotional Monday

I had to have a mammo on monday due to my history and I was sitting in a small waiting room with 6 women. They were already chatting about how one woman was going to be grandma to twins and the other was also going to be a grandma. Then the topic turned to how This ones daughter had to go to a RE and so the other one says mine too, woman #3 says also my daughter. I chime in as well. The next woman comes in and she also starts talking about her daughter is just in the process this week to retrieve her eggs. Out of the 7 women that were there 6 including myself were all touched by IF. It is truly amazing how just in a few minutes IF that was so taboo to speak about a few years ago is a common waiting room conversation in a NON RE office.

All of the moms talked about how their daughters were doing all sorts of shots and the meds. I know they felt pain for their daughters but i know they didnt get it like i know it. It kinda hit me hardest when one woman said that her Son-IL may have no sperm. We all know how bad the urge is and that is a show stopper. We chatted some more and I can only hope that if plan A doesnt work for her that her daughters plan B hits the mark.
I left there thinking that these ladies could be any one of our mothers. The same women who hid their bellies under moo moos and now so freely talk about IF. I just hope that going forward our daughters have the ability to speak about this and any other woman issues freely and openly.

Thanks for reading

That's a great story Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

It reminds me of how my grandmother told me there's a woman in her building who is doing IVF to (hopefully) conceive her second child. I asked her how she knew... and she said she told her that I had just gotten pregnant from IVF. I love my little infertility awareness spreading granny Chat Icon Chat Icon

An emotional Monday

it's sad that its such a taboo topic but at least the women felt that they could speak about it freely.
its insane how so many women are going through this. my paternal grandma was the oldest of 15; she had 8 kids (the first one was stillborn); my other grandma had 11 kids and my mom had 6 kids...all with no assistance. 3 out of my mom's 5 daughters (obv including myself), have had IF issues (all unrelated issues). Crazy!!!

I love how IF is becoming so much more acceptable to talk about. Sad that it's so common, but nothing to be ashamed of. Chat Icon

Re: An emotional Monday

its still amazing to me how even now after i went through what seemed like a never ending period of sadness and failure, got a BFP and my miracle baby that i still feel so connected to the pain.

I am glad that I can talk about it but there are so many aspects of IF that are still hush hush. For example the woman who told us her daughter had plan B when there were other women around, waited to tell me that plan B was donor sperm when everyone left.
I dont know why she waited, maybe I do, maybe she just needed to get it out. And I was her person. More power to her. sticky vibes I hope her daughters 2ww is a positive one.

Re: An emotional Monday

It seems that so many are scared to admit there is a problem because they feel they will be judged. I was one of those people in the beginning. I then realized even though it is my body that is keeping us from having a baby (right now) there is no fault in this.

People who are fertile are afraid to say anything because they fear they will sound stupid because I know so much about my body and they just had sex on tuesday and BAM pregnant.

Then there are those you don't want to say anything to because you KNOW they had a cousin, coworker, ex-SIL who ate Barilla pasta and got pregnant after years of trying....

I finally "Came Out" during IF awareness week. There were a few people who sent me messages saying they are going through it too, but don't feel right talking about it, etc etc etc. I have to say, it felt great. I no longer feel like I am hiding in the shadows hoping nobody asks "When are you guys gonna have a baby"? Now if I get that question (for those who still haven't heard about my IF) I will come out and say that we have been trying and I have been to specialist. They will either shut up or ask me about it. I'll be more than happy to explain and maybe they can learn something from me.
