Cabinets don't have to match?
I am looking at houses and came accross this picture. Is this a new trend? Shouldn't the cabinets match? I think my sense of order would drive me batty!

Ive seen when the base cabinets don't match the uppers, which I like but this I don't understand AT ALL.

That looks like a mess. I've seen it where the island doesn't match the rest of the cabinets which can look really nice but this I would drive me insane.

I've seen kitchens where the island is a different color, or like the PP said the uppers are different than the lowers, but this pic is nutty
ETA: Are they all the same cabinets but some of them have a dark stain? This is very bizarre.

I have only seen the trend where the island is a different color but it is usually in fancy very high end kitchens and probably planned by a designer. I am not a fan though.

A friend has cream cabinets everywhere, except her island where they are navy blue. It looks great! This is a mess: I've also seen upper one color and lower another which looks nice.
One of the kitchens I love is White up top, gray on the bottonm and marble counters

I don't like this at all. What's making it worse is that the hanging cabinet on the right should be dark brown (assuming they were going for that alternating-color look). Bleh!
