NYC Teachers- How/When to add baby to ins?
Hi,
DH is a NYC teacher. We have GHI. I would like to find a pediatrician now before baby is born. Not sure how baby gets added to the policy or how pediatrician gets paid right after baby is born. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

Submit the paperwork after baby is born. Once it is approved (pretty quickly) the ped can submit charges

This. It used to be just a foot print but now you need more documentation. I am not exactly sure what though.

you have 30 days to submit the paperwork. They want a copy of the birth certificate so you have to wait for that to come also

I just went through this - you must get a letter from the hospital saying the date, name of child, name of mother, name of father.
His payroll secretary should have the form that needs to be submitted I add a dependent. Those two need to be faxed together. Then... When you get the birth cert you need to fax that over immediately. Wait a few days - call!! Be on their ass. Doe blows with paperwork

Just an FYI--GHI takes foreverrrr. My ped started to get really annoyed because they took so long to get my DD added.
