Recommend your OB? (port Jeff)

Hello! This is my first time posting!

I'm currently 5 weeks pregnant and so excited! I already made my first appointment at Suffolk OBGYN (Dr. Shaffer I believe), but I kind of made that appointment randomly because I don't have a regular OBGYN since we just moved to LI.

Has anyone been to either Suffolk obgyn and/or seen this dr? Good? Bad?

Or do you have another reco? I think I would like to deliver at Mather.

Thanks!!

Mather does not deliver to my knowledge. St. Charles or Stony Brook are the options in that area.

I chose Stony Brook because I'm using the midwives and they deliver there. Plus all the rooms are private, and like it much more than St. Charles. In comparison, SC seems so small in relation to SB. And I like SBs policies on constant contact with baby, breastfeeding, etc. Everyone I know has used SC but my preference was SB. The midwives are great too, you should check out a meet the midwives night.

I go to Suffolk OB. I only saw Dr Schaffer once and she seemed nice.

I see Strittmatter or Marshak usually.

Mather does not deliver and Suffolk OB only delivers at St Charles.

I had two deliveries at St Charles and was very happy there. Stonybrook does have all private rooms, but both times in St Charles I only had a roomate for 1 out of 3 nights. So I pretty much had a private room. I think you will be happy with either hospital.

I delivered my firs DS at St Charles and it was phenomenal.. I prefer St Charles over StonyBrook whoever I have heard that the NICU at Stony Brook is good .

I go to Suffolk OB/GYN and I love them!!!.........been a patient there for 12 yrs. I mostly see Dr. Petraco who is wonderful. SO nice, takes his time, very knowledgeable. I love him!!

I delivered both of my children at St. Charles and had an awesome experience both times. The staff is wonderful, all of the nurses are amazing, the food is delish, the rooms are bright and cheery, and I loved how small and intimate the whole hospital is. It doesn't feel like chaos as you would expect in bigger hospitals. I highly recommend delivering there. Chat Icon

I go to Suffolk OB and I have no issues with them. I delivered at St. Charles twice already and liked it.

Mather does not deliver babies like others have said.

Recommend your OB? (port Jeff)

I have been to 3 OB offices in Port Jeff in the last 2 years! So I can tell you about my experience with all of them.

Argen Medical (Dr. San Roman), Washington Park Women's Health (Dr. Erhart and Tufano), and Suffolk OBGYN.

I personally wanted to deliver at St. Charles because it is closer to me (I live in Miller Place), it's a smaller hospital which I prefer, and I know they are very high-rated in maternity and have won awards.

When my husband and I first moved to the area RIGHT before we started trying, I went to Suffolk OBGYN. I did not have a great experience there. I found the office staff to be rude and the doctor I went to (Marshak) was very standoffish. I just didn't feel comfortable with her. I also remember waiting almost an hour, and they also told me up front that they recommend I see a different doctor every time so I could get to know them all. (When you deliver there is no guarantee of which doctor you are going to get) There are pros and cons to this. For me personally I prefer a more intimate experience with one or 2 doctors.

So when I was preggo in June I switched and went to Dr. Tufano and Erhart. Both of them are GREAT. I can't say enough about the 2 doctors. I saw Tufano but she went on maternity leave (just as I was having a miscarriage) and I saw Dr. Erhart one time. Dr. tufano also performed my salpingectomy surgery. But I wasn't crazy about their staff- they were insensitive, (Not the doctors- they were GREAT!) and the ultrasound tech doesnt know what she's doing! And a few times when I made appointments with the doctor, I would get there and they would stick me with the nurse practitioner because the doctors were too busy. And it was also really hard to get a hold of a doctor when you had questions. (the nurse or staff would be the ones calling me back)

I got pregnant again this time, and my health insurance changed so I had no choice but to switch doctors AGAIN! This was a blessing in disguise! I now go to Dr. San Roman. (This is Gustavo San Roman- he has 3 brothers that are all doctors) There is another doctor and a Midwife in the office that I haven't met. I cannot say enough amazing things about this office! I didn't know what I was missing until I went there. They gave me such a comprehensive exam when I went in. I wasn't scheduled for an ultrasound but the doctor made SURE they were able to squeeze me in once I told him how nervous I was after having a miscarriage. And he sat and talked to me for almost a half an hour about their pracitice, waht goes down on delivery day, St. Charles, my medical history, answering all my questions... He made me feel SO comfortable. And all the staff was pleasant and kind. And everyone I talked to on this site that goes to Dr. San Roman cannot say enough great things about him. I have only been there once, but I just had such a great experience there.

So there are my opinions on 3 OB offices that all deliver at St. Charles!
