Painting/staining wood kitchen cabinets?
Bear with me we are no handy people
Our new home has a great new kitchen, cabinets are cherry wood.
If we wanted to make them lighter or white could we? would that be staining? painting? would it be expensive?
The cabinets are beautiful but are very close to the color of the granite which makes it look muted and blah to me...I feel like lightening the cabinets would make the granite pop more.
Any input would be appreciated

We're looking to do this but with darkening. We're looking at Rustoleum. They do have a lightening kit. They sell it at Home Depot.

I have never stripped and restained something but, I have stained wood. it's difficult to make it look perfect. IMO I would paint them before I stained them.

Honestly idk that I'd paint them. If you hate it you're kinda screwed, and if it's a pretty new kitchen it would stink.
Can you redo the backsplash to maybe something brighter? Or take a color from the granite to use for your main decor color?
Also did you see the house empty? Sometimes a room looks very blah until its decorated, then it looks much better when its more homey.

I think it would be hard to lighten the stain of cherry to be white...
I think in your case I might just spring for new lighter countertops?
