How to de-pinkify a room? Help with colors!
We're probably moving. Our current bathroom is blue tile and we have dark blue and light green towels and a blue and grren shower curtain, which we love.
We're moving into a house with a pink bathroom. Pink toilet, pink tub, gray and pink tiles.
I hate pink. I mean I like it as a color, i'll wear it, but I hate it for a house. It's not worth it to me to re-do the tile, bathtub, sink, etc, but how can I paint/'accessorize to take the focus off the pink? My mom suggested to go with the gray? Would you paint a bathroom gray? And then light gray towels or dark gray?
Someone else suggested black and white.
It's a baby/powder pink. my official least favorite color.

I would just embrace it then. Consider it vintage. Go with a black white and pink look.
Or take it and have fun with it, get a cool scrolly mirror, some black damask wallpaper for the top half of the walls.
Do easy updates like the vanity or an updated mirror. I have also seen it done were beadboard was glued OVER the colored tiles on the wall with a ledge up at the top which was cool.

I think gray & pink may look too 80s.
I would probably add as much white as possible, but I love this website--it may give you some ideas, but these people love the 50s pink bathrooms.
Save the Pink Bathrooms!

Can you see the pics? It's not really vintage-y. It was the-done in 2003.

I also have a very pink bathroom in my new house. You can replace the sink and undercabinet with a cheap piece from home depot, I saw ones for like $200. But you have to get the old one out.
That being said, I plan on lots of grays, gray towels, gray shower curtain, grays and whites....

I would do some easy fixes, new vanity, you can get a new toilet REALLY inexpensively. Check out Re-Store or craigs list for vanities. Otherwise, you can totally paint your existing and just update the counter and fixtures. Change out hte mirror and get a floor to ceiling length shower curtain to hide the tub, OR if you plan to update in the future just have the tub and tiles reglazed white for now.

I'd get a new white toilet, a cheap cute vanity and have the shower curtain bar low so the curtain goes all the way to the floor and you can't see the tub

I would glaze the tub - very inexpensive, to white, and replace the toilet to white, which you can get pretty cheap and just paint the walls a nice, neutral beige like Bleeker Beige from BM and then do some nice, warm accents like a beige rug, some decorative pieces on the vanity, etc. I would take that mirror off and buy a nice, attractive mirror with a wood border (like those they sell at Peter Andrews or Home Goods). They sell those wood vanities with the marble tops very cheap too - the best I saw was at Costco, I also saw them at Peter Andrews when they had their annual BIG sale.

If you're looking into reglazing, I highly recommend Melga Sales We just had our tub and tiles reglazed and they did a really great job! They were very professional and affordable.

Re: How to de-pinkify a room? Help with colors!
I didn't even think of re-glazing. Thanks!
I'm not sure I even want to go that far because I don't know how long we're going to live here. Maybe about 2 years until my mom retires. (We're moving upstairs from her so she can keep her home and we can save some money since we pay the utilities on this house anyway in addition to our rent elsewhere).
I'm wondering if I can add beige (another color I'm not super fond of) and maybe like a greenish color and make it beachy?

Re: How to de-pinkify a room? Help with colors!
Actually the previous tenants were terrible and the whole tub and tiles were literally black..the bottom of the tub still has black spots so maybe re-glazing is a good idea if only to get rid of that.
Do you think I can make it white with a white toilet and keep the tile?
It was actually really expensive Italian tile

Re: How to de-pinkify a room? Help with colors!
Maybe I can replace to reglaze the sink as well and paint eh vanity. it isn't what I would have chosen, but it's in great shape. Maybe I could do like a glossy off white, or maybe a distressed off white and keep it beachy

I would reglaze the tub and then replace the toilet. That should "depink" it enough. The sink/tiles don't look like pepto pink but a blush which we had in a prior house, which would almost disappear with a cream colored paint/shower curtain/linens (ours had the blush tiles on the floor and the sink as well. The walls were cream but with a slight pinkish tint.

Re: How to de-pinkify a room? Help with colors!
Yeah, I think reglazing the tub white and getting a white toilet would work well! The guys I recommended above charge $310 for reglazing a tub white.
And the cabinets you could easily fix up...I think it's Rustoleum that makes a product specific for redoing cabinets?

Check out home depot and Lowes- You can get a new vanity and sink without spending a lot of money. If you are not going to staying in the house long I would try to work with the pink- I have a beautiful shower curtain that is mostly sage greens with just an accent of pink. You could use a color palette like that...the Benjamin Moore website has great ideas for color combinations.

If you don't own the place then i would just deal with the pink and stick with the gray accents. Maybe get a grey toilet lid cover too hide some of the toilet.

Re: How to de-pinkify a room? Help with colors!
I painted my bathroom grey and it looks great. Although, I went with a totally girly theme. Pinks all around. I got this line from BBB:
But most of the accents around the room are grey, black and white.

Re: How to de-pinkify a room? Help with colors!
if you don't own the house I wouldn't waste time and money doing improvements.
the pictures don't look as bad as I thought they were going to based on your OP.
I think you should go with clean white and dark gray.
Clean White Shower Curtain Bright White Towels and accent with dark gray hand towels.
We had a pink bathroom when we first moved into our house and it was way worse! pepto pink and black ugh

Re: How to de-pinkify a room? Help with colors!
Our tub is pink we just covered with a shower curtain. The rest of our bathroom was gray so not so bad.
Maybe you can paint the cabinets (before buying a new vanity) and change out the toilet.
