hmm...I think so. When my DD was in the NICU, I dont recall being asked with every treatment they gave her. But I could just not recall, kwim? I just dont recall oking everything that they did to her in there.

Most likely a consent will be signed upon arrival that states you consent to emergency treatment but as for most of the stuff they will do it does not news consent. All 3 of my boys were in the NICU and we never had to consent with the exception of the form I mentioned.

I am pretty sure yes....especially in any type of emergency situation. When my 3 were in the NICU, there were times they needed blood transfusions immediately. They always had a consent form, but if I was not there to sign it (and I lived 30 minutes away) the nurse would attempt to call me and then I would sign a form when I eventually got there. But I believe at the beginning of their stay I signed something to give them consent for any emergency procedure that was needed. My triplets were in the NICU for a while (my DD was there 9.5 weeks) and they had a ton of things done, I definitely know that I did not sign consent for everything!

Some procedures do not require consent once a patient is in the icu
A blanket consent is signed when patient is admitted to ICU. This includes routine procedures like central line and arterial line placement.
An exception to informed consent is a life saving procedure like intubation.

DS spent 7 weeks in the NICU. I never actually consented to anything I suppose. I was just told about things after they happened. They did call if there were any major changes, but when I got there each day, I would receive a status update from the nurse on duty.
I probably signed some sort of blanket consent. DS was 12 weeks early and immed after birth was transferred from one hospital to another. We had a lot of paperwork to sign along the way.

My DS is in the NICU now. The only thing they needed consent for was for his broviac line. And even that, I think the consent was for the anesthesia. He's had lots of tests and some intervention while he's been here and they haven't needed consent for any of it.

yup. their priority is keeping the baby/babies healthy and thriving. i would come in the morning and they would tell me what was done or if i caught them during their rounds they would tell me what they were doing....never asked me.
