Why don't you come a little further South to GA...I can help with that!
In all seriousness, I hear Charleston is beautiful. But if I had to choose, I would do NC or GA...SC (since it's in the middle) doesn't have as many developed/diverse towns.

Re: spinoff of NC, anyone lives in SC or has any info?
My Brother LOVES to VISIT Charleston, but there's no way in hell he'd ever live there. He says is absolutely beautiful. He loves spending time learning the history and touring the plantations, etc.
From what he says there are still rebel flags waiving, they're still living in the civil war - "hate us Yankees" because "slavery was a good thing and we ruined it."
ETA: I completely agree with Sasha...stick with NC, GA. Maybe even other parts of SC, but I wouldn't know where.

Not to knock it, but Tania, SC hasn't progressed so much. NC and GA on the other hand...lots of growth!

Fashion? A lot of companies are HQ in Atlanta. Actually, I know someone that left NY to move here. She worked for Enyce and now works for Azzure Denim. Don't forget Atlanta is the "Capital of the New South" and the urban market is huge. And then there's OLD MONEY high fashion too.

I had a boss - her husband was transferred to Greenville, SC. She likes it down there - but has been referred to as "Yankee B!tch" a few times!
honestly, anywhere south of the mason-dixon line people still think they won the civil war. My sister lives in richmond and she was told to "go home yankee" a few times!

Sooo true! I remember vacationing in Wilmington, NC seeing "Go home Yakees"...yeah...Yakees...not Yankees. sprayed by the beautiful homes on the beach. I actually found it quite comical....if you're going to blast someone...at least spell it right.

I have never experienced this in Atlanta. Ever. And my family has been here over 5 years. There's racism, ut I experienced worse in NY.
I'm sorry anyone has to go through that!

Re: spinoff of NC, anyone lives in SC or has any info?
After spending 6 weeks in Myrtle Beach this summer, if Leo had to be transferred back there we would go. We had a really fun time. We only had one racist encounter there, and the guy was more of less "warning" us to stay away from black people. Ironic how meanwhile, that made me want to stay away from him.
We experienced much more racism in NY. In the form of, what did your parents say when you married Puerto Rican? Mine would have killed me type stuff. More or less, loud and ignorant.
We went to Charleston for the day. Our GPS system seems to take us on backroads everytime we travel. Right before you get to the mansions, there is a ghetto filled with black people that look like shacks. Everyone was telling us, its either really rich or really poor.
In all honesty, and this is not meant to be taken seriously because I am speaking out of hunches and NOTHING else...I like living in charlotte, because there are much more people that moved to charlotte then people that are from charlotte. Northerners took over here. I notice a huge difference once we go outside charlotte. We are pretty close to the SC line. Right away, it turns into country bumkin..not a bad thing, but not my thing.
We haven't seen another puerto rican in Charlotte, tons of mexicans and dh works with guatemalans(sp). The new area we are moving to (Huntersville) is full of italians from ny/nj

I lived in SC! Go TIGERS!!!
Anyway I was in Clemson, Pendleton, Seneca, parts of Greenville. I would more there thou. Beautiful but too much "culture" shock. Myrtle Beach is another story but those towns are more west. Up by NC & TN.

Re: spinoff of NC, anyone lives in SC or has any info?
Last year before we moved to Florida I interviewed in Summerville, SC. It was about 20-25 min outside of Charleston. We loved it there. So much was being developed which is why we didn't move there. I felt that if you went outside this town there was nothing.
I do regret not going there first. Maybe in a few years we will re-check it out. the prices are pretty reasonable too!
