In between feedings...

We have DS on a pretty set feeding schedule. He eats every 4 hours with the exception of overnight, we feed him at 11 and then let him go until he wakes us up and he's been going about 5-5.5 hours, eats and then goes back down until 8-830

During the day in between feedings what do you do with your LO? The only period of time we do anything consistent is the morning, we feed, have a diaper change, get dressed, read a story, play on the activity mat and do a little tummy time... and at night we feed, have a bath, diaper change, put PJs on, read a story and go to bed. Other than that all day I kind of just follow his lead, he falls asleep when he falls asleep and is up when he is up. It makes it difficult to get anything done but I didn't even expect to have as much time as I do with a newborn so I can't complain!

I just ask because he is going to day care and are they going to want him on a more structured schedule during the day? He's consistent with feedings but his naps during the day are all over the place.

I don't know if its even possible to get a baby that young on a structured schedule. DS is 4 months and we still follow his leads. He is relatively consistent with naps, but some days he is more tired (yesterday he took 3 two hour naps!) and other days he is more awake and only takes one or two short naps. I think most babies are all over the place with nap time. Just like us they have days where they are more tired than others.

I never put DS on a schedule. And he still isn't on a strict one. At that age I was just trying to stop him from crying. We did lots of mat time when he was awake or not hysterical

DS is three months and similarly the only real schedule is his feeding.. but even that sometimes he throws a curve ball and "eats on demand"

Have you confirmed with the day care that they want him on a schedule? When we looked at our daycare's for babies under a year are on their own schedule...

We try to keep him every 4 hours for feedings, but at night he looks for a bottle every 3-3.5 hours usually. But then during the day sometime he can go 4-5 hours.

In the morning, after he wakes up we usually play on the mat for about 30-45 minutes, he loves it. He just loves kicking his little legs around on there and tries to swat the monkey hanging over him. Sometimes he plays on there again at some point in the afternoon. Other than that, sometimes he is just so content in my arms looking around, I also just talk to him alot to keep him stimulated.

We have not been reading, but I think we will start this week!

He always have "mat time" with daddy in the evenings.... their way of spending time together without daddy just holding him for hours!
