Stomach Bug

DS is almost 5 and got his first stomach bug yesterday...he got a good night sleep and said he feels great this morning. Is this too good to be true? Do these things come and go pretty quickly. I have no experience, i've never had one.

We are supposed to go to a family party today, and not sure if we should go..ugh. Never a dull moment.

You should definitely NOT go to the party. The stomach bug is highly contagious, so even if he feels better today, which is definitely possible as they tend to be short lived, he can still pass it on. I would never bring him around family or friends so soon.

Yes it is possible to feel better that quickly but like PPs have said, it's still contagious.
I usually do the 24 hr rule...24 hrs fever and/or symptom free to go back to school etc.

I would be careful. There are alot of different stomach bugs going around and one is VERY bad. My 5.5 yr old had his first stomach bug a few weeks ago. He threw up once in the middle of the night and then seemed fine except for an occasional tummy ache and not wanting to eat as much. He seemed so fine I thought it was just food poisoning. Next thing I know - the whole entire house came down with it one by one and, he, was even throwing up again 3 days later! it lingered for a week for all of us. He had it the easiest - never had a fever and was fine other than the two vomiting incidents in the middle of the night. The rest of us had it worse. This was the first stomach virus to ever hit our house - my DS had never even thrown up before this!!!! And, I can't remember the last time I was this sick - at least 10 yrs ago! It was bad!

Hopefully, it is the milder 24 hr version that is going around but, if he just threw up I would NOT go to the party - not fair to everyone else. Good luck

thanks....my DH had it a few days ago, but he has a bad stomache in general so he thought it was some bad food that he ate. Prior to that i had one night of being "sick" but no vomitting...so i wonder if maybe i started it.
I guess my little girl is next.
After this winter i'm toughining up with having sick kids and illnesses, i guess we will just deal with it, and get better in a few days.
Just feel bad for DS because he was REALLY looking forward to seeing his cousins..oh well...

Def don't go to the party. Ds had the stomach bug at Christmas time. It was insanely contagious...10 days later he was still giving it to people!

You may get lucky and avoid getting it, or it may take over your whole house. There's really no way to know. If you haven't already, strip your sons bedding and disinfect his room. Give him a shower to try to wash away some of the germs and keep your kids away from each other as much as possible.

I know so many people that had it this winter. I was watching the show the doctors the other day, and they said it's a new strain of Norovirus that came from Australia, and it's very bad.

It could be a mild bug...my DD had it last week...she threw up 3-4 times on a Friday evening, went to bed, and didn't throw up again. No one else in our family got it either. Hoping for something like this for you!

I would skip the party today but, if DS continues to feel well, I would send him back to school tomorrow.
