intro to solids spinoff- anyone delay solids?

if you started solids later (past 6 months), i have a few questions
what was your reasoning for it?
when did you start?
what did you start with?
if you skipped grains, why?
do you regret delaying solids or is there anything you would've done differently?
was this in agreement with your pediatrician or no?

My opinion is for those who BF because I do not know anything about formula.

We started at 6 months. BM is supposed to be the main source of nutrition for the 1st year.

We did not do those cereals or anything like that. We just started with fresh, organic, seasonal fruits and veggies that I cooked (steamed, roasted/baked, etc) and pureed. I just didn't see a need for oatmeal cereal or rice cereal or anything like that.

We did banana, avocado, papaya, apples, etc. It was different for my 1st and the twins because my 1st was 6 months in June and the twins turned 6 months in August, so the "seasonal" things were a tad different.

My ped recommended waiting until 6 months. No regrets, nothing we would have done differently here. The twins are 13 months now and my 1st is 3 and they are all great eaters.

i give tiny tot oatmeal butttttttttttttttt she still gets the same amount of bm. i told her daycare if she starts drinking less bm during the day they need to cut back on the solids. her main source of nutrition WILL BE BM.

Pretty much ditto. Nutrition is one of those things that I dont necessarily think a peds opinion is the end all be all. I am not introducing grains like oatmeal until after one year. I may give some rice (not rice cereal) before then. Modern day grains can be very harsh on a baby's immature digestive system. I prefer to start off with nutrient dense foods like egg yolk, homemade broth, avocado, banana, ghee, etc.

I love the Weston a price foundation recommendations for solids feeding. It is based upon what traditional cultures fed their babies.

My ped suggested solids at 4 months but didn't really have any valid reasons why I shouldn't wait until 6. He was fine perfectly fine with me waiting. I did a lot of reading on the topic and saw no reason to push it. There is a lot of info on kellymom.com as well as links to other sources and research.

I gave oatmeal at 6 months and then went right on to fruits and veggies after 4 days. No regrets and I don't think I would change anything.

This is me too.

Dd is 6.5mos old. Ped suggested to wait till 6mos and said she introduces grains last bc they are hard on the digestive system. We started with yellow/orange first but actually did banana, avocado, yams, butternut squash. Carrots and pears are next to try. Then apples and some greens.

We did but solely for the reason that DS was noy ready. He still had a severe tongue thrust reflex. We started at 7.5 months with fruits and oatmeal.

intro to solids spinoff- anyone delay solids?

started at 4 months with one small bowl of rice cereal and veggies once a day around lunch time, now that he is 6 months old he is up to a lunch time bowl of food and fruits and then a dinner bowl and veggies in addition to his 24-30 oz of formula a day. I didn't delay and once my Ped told me it was ok to start I started, felt right to me and DS loves is food

Tell them to shutty and because you chose one of the 4,285 different options on feeding out there. 4 mo, 5 mo, 7 mo, cereal, no cereal, fruit first, veg first...

We are skipping grains because there is supposidly some correlation to allergies and since they already have eczema. Our ped said wait 6 or even 7 mo because they are more ready then. He said not to stress myself out with trying to get both to eat since it should be a fun social thing. I was going to wait til 6 mo and just begin with veg then do fruit BUT I think they might be ready now. They watch us like hawks when we eat and look at us like "where's mine". And I when I gave H tylenol the other day she went nuts! She was like a crack addict with that cherry liquid. Making all sorts of sounds and she got mad when it was done so I think she will enjoy eating. If not, I'll wait. I just dont want her to not do something she will enjoy because I said I wanted to wait til 6 mo.

Re: intro to solids spinoff- anyone delay solids?

ds#2 started solids at 7.5 months but we also skipped grains like many pp. We started with veggie & fruit purees. The Dr didn't agree with my decision but who cares, I'm his mom & I feel confident in my decisions.
