Be honest...PIO related
How bad are the PIO shots? For my last IVF we did suppositories but this RE said PIO. I'm terrified of the asss injections. The stomach I can handle.
We trigger tonight with Lupron then get a little break than PIO. I'm scared.

You asked for honest so I will give you honest: they are not that bad until I got a positive beta and had to stay on them for 5 extra weeks and I ran out of injection sites on my ass due to welts and soreness!
Some people ice the injection site prior to injection but I never did which explains the bruising.
Good Luck

I didn't think they were bad. I iced before and used a heating pad afterwards.
Also, I think if it works, the beautiful outcome you will have will be worth any of the pain you experienced.

Re: Be honest...PIO related
I actually had a choice an CHOSE pio!!! It got annoying but wasn't terrible and honestly if you do get pregnant and you know you're doing it for a good reason, I find it easier to take. The anticipation was far worse than reality for me!!

Crazy but I actually preferred PIO to suppositories. The anticipation for me was way worse. I found icing the area before to really help. Good Luck!!!

i prefer pio to suppositories, actually. I felt the worst part was before i even was given the shot. anticipating it was scary!! it really was nothing, didn't hurt a bit. i did ice prior to the shot, then used a heating pad afterwards. good luck!!!

IMO PIO is awful and i would never choose it over supps ever. supps are messy but manageable. PIO gets progressively worse as you go. at first it seems OK and manageable but as the days and weeks go on it gets weltier and itchier and it bleeds more (esp. if you are on lovenox or aspirin too). the bruises, welts and itchiness lasted well over a month after the shots were done.
as far as pain goes the shot doesn't really hurt too much if thats your concern. i iced before and heating pad for a minimum of 30 minutes after and thats what worked for me although different people will have different combos of hot and cold and tips and tricks. its really the aftermath of the shots that was the worst for me. but everyones experience is different so i would just go with the flow and deal with it as it comes. i was so totally petrified of PIO but in the end you do what you gotta do. and then you have a celebration when its over!! good luck!!

Re: Be honest...PIO related
I would take PIO over suppositories, but that's me. As pp said, to each your own and everyone has there own heat/ice theory so you may just have to play around to see what works for you. I did only heat. I'd heat oil in bowl of water, sit on heating pad for a min before and then a few minutes after. I also worked out the muscle by movingmy leg around after the shot. I never had a problem. Good Luck!!

This is what I did! It was totally manageable all 11wks I was on it.
I previously iced beforehand but found heating before and after to be wayyyyy better and I hardly got any welts.

Same here. I iced me and would warm the PIO needle.

Honestly, it is more mental than physical. There were some injections that weren't as smooth but that wasn't often......until the end. We celebrated the night I got to stop (I think it was 6 or 7 weeks total)
