Talk to me about the NT scan?
Is it worth it? I have no family history on either side that would make me worried, but I also wonder if it's worth it for any potential worry for nothing?
I don't know why I'm so torn! DH wants me to get it. My sister had it and said it was no big deal.

Re: Talk to me about the NT scan?
honestly it is up to you. Also depending on your age. It is totally optional but DH and I wanted to get it done just in case somehting was off and it will help us prepare for later on. Some people say the NT scan is an excuse to see your baby again which is true I loved seeing my LO but it is much more detailed than any other ultrasound. They measure your placenta, your uterus, they check for your blood for any soft markers and other genetic deficiencies. Ultimately is your decision but is a much more detailed exam.

Re: Talk to me about the NT scan?
I had it this time and last time...it's not very intrusive and I really try and limit the amount of ultrasounds I have done. But this one is non invasive, gives lots of info and the bloodwork done with it helps to give some more definitive news. IMHO it's not a big deal because it's not invasive, done early and is helpful.

Talk to me about the NT scan?
I had it done because my doctor's office didnt really give me a choice.. I pretty much went along with all their tests since it was my first time and it really put me at ease to know that eveything was looking ok for my baby:)

Talk to me about the NT scan?
I did not get it. There are way too many false positives and cause unneeded stress.

Talk to me about the NT scan?
We ended up getting the NT Scan. I was too nervous not to get it. There is no family history or any of that in my family. The Anatomy Scan we were more worried about as spinabifida is in my family. The NT Scan was totally fine. While there are some false positives there are enough tests afterwards that we were confident we would get the answers we needed.
My sister is an OB and I spoke to her about it asking what she would do. She said we had to ask ourselves a couple questions before getting the scans. If the answers were no then there was no reason to get the scan (although I would rather prepare myself). She said to ask yourself "if the test comes back positive are you willing to get an amnio?" "If all tests come back positive are you going to terminate or keep the baby?" Her thoughts were if you aren't going to do either then why stress yourself out for 9 months. If you are going to take what G-d has given you then don't get the test.

Re: Talk to me about the NT scan?
I got it done with both my previous pregnancies. I was at low risk both times. If anything it was a chance for me to see the baby again. I dont put much weight into the results, b.c alot of times they are wrong.

Re: Talk to me about the NT scan?
I see no reason not to get it. It's not invasive and simply having no family history does not mean something can't happen.

I saw no reason NOT to get it. I *personally* would want to know if something was wrong but also I NEVER passed up an opportunity to see my LO.
