Cancelled IUI because too many follies
Has this happened to anyone? I have nine follies ranging from 12 to 14.5. I opted to cancel this IUI for obvious reasons. I have heard of cancelling IVF for various reason but never IUI. I was on follistim (sp) starting with 150.

Re: Cancelled IUI because too many follies
I've heard of this happening.
I have PCOS and I don't ovulate on my own but my ovaries are very large and I have lots of follicles!
We tried for months with Clomid and Letrozole but my body never responded. My RE didn't want to put me on injectables to do an IUI because she thought I would produce too many eggs and have to cancel my cycle - I don't have infertility coverage so I've been paying out of pocket for everything and she didn't want me to 'waste my money.'
I can't say for sure, but I think I would have been in the same boat if I had opted to do injectables and IUI.

Re: Cancelled IUI because too many follies
I have had it happened, except my old RE cancelled the cycle because they freaked out in regards to the number of follies. It sucks, but at least you know you respond well!

Re: Cancelled IUI because too many follies
Thanks ladies. This cycle is out and possibly next cycles because I have to wait for the follies to dissolve. I never had more than two follies on clomid. We will be starting at 75 instead of 150 next time. Fingers crossed.

Re: Cancelled IUI because too many follies
This happened to me. I was always a slow responder to Gonal F... never made more than 1-2 follies. One cycle my RE decided to increase my dosage to get better results and I ended up with 13. Needless to say that they canceled my IUI. I had to wait 1-2 months and then try again.

Re: Cancelled IUI because too many follies
I'm still learning here, but why is too many follies a bad thing? isn't there more of a chance of getting pg if there is more? i'm confused..

Re: Cancelled IUI because too many follies
that happened my first cycle. i had 10+ mature. we were doing a TI cycle not IUI but my RE actually said not to have sex and if we did we HAD to use condoms. it was poor Dhs 30th birthday also. i ended up getting AF VERY early and none of the follies went away so i ended up having to go on BCP for a month before i could start cycling again. its pretty common to hyperstimulate if you have PCOS. good luck next time around!!

cause they chance of high order multiples is too high. its not worth the risk cause 3+ babies can cause a very high risk pregnancy and many complications. most REs goal is to get you pregnant with one healthy baby and give you the best shot to maintain a healthy normal pregnancy. it is somewhat of a medical failure if you get pregnant with high order multiples since that isn't the ideal end goal.

Personally, I don't think its responsible to go ahead with 5-6 follicles unless your doctor has discussed with you the risks of high order multiples and your thoughts on selective reduction. These are things your doctor should be discussing with you before triggering with that amount.

Re: Cancelled IUI because too many follies
this happened to me the first time they put me on 100mg of clomid. They had to cancel my cycle because there were too many follies. Afterward the bumped me down to 50mg and it was better. So i am guessing in this case they just need to reduce whatever they are giving you. good luck!

Cancelled IUI because too many follies
It is common especially if you have PCOS. Is this your first cycle with injectables? Usually it can be trial and error. Next time they know they will have to lower your dosage.

No, I don't have PCOS. This is my first time with injectables. Will start next time with half the dose and see how I do.
