Hey Ladies! With DS I delivered at Mercy which I loved. This time around the dr. told me they got to Winthrop more then any other hospital. What was your experience like? Was the food good? Do you get a lot to take home? Do you have to pay to park? Anything you can tell me will help!

Im in the same boat and asked a while ago - so far i heard nothing but good reviews from ladies in LIF. They said the food was good as well ( especially their desserts) . I was also wondering if they give you goodies to take home, with my 1st hospital Plainview- I got a diaper bag with lotsa of things as well as a big giftbasket filled with gourmet food and NUMC i got nada, couldnt even sneak any blankets or onsies home because they were keeping such close tabs on the supplies lol. I hope Withrop is more on the generous side and wondered what others experiences were. I been trying to book a tour ( at 35 weeks) and for the last month I just get voicemail and phonetag so it's annoying, I think I will just show up Wednesday and see if they will let me look. I will report back my review of it lol

I delivered there in July 2011. The food was good. I remember having french toast for breakfast and a nice salad with grilled chicken for dinner. They gave me a bag of stuff to take home and I don't even think I used most of it. I took a lot of diapers for the baby. Never did a tour and I didn't have a problem figuring anything out. I don't think my husband had to pay to park. But I can't remember lol.

Do they have all private rooms?

Not when I was there. I got into my room at 5am and my roommate checked out that morning. I had the whole room to myself the rest of that day and night. Then the next day when I was checking out, they brought someone else up to the room. So it kind of felt like I had a private room since I had the room to myself for a full night. Oh and the room had a bathroom with a shower.

Re: Winthrop Hospital

I just had my DD at Winthrop last month and was very happy with them. The food was good and they come around around 4:00 with a dessert cart. DH had to pay for parking the 2nd day I was there.
As for the private rooms, the goal is to have all moms in a private room unless they are very packed. I had a private room which was very spacious. From how it looked, most of the patients had private rooms when I was there.

Winthrop Hospital

I just had my DS there in November and had a good experience. The food is very good (for hospital food) and the dessert was soooo good!! DH managed to get a parking pass b/c DS was in NICU (otherwise he would have had to pay every day and I was there 5 days!). I had the room to myself all 5 days. The nurses were very good. I was forgotten about once or twice (I had a c-section so it was difficult to walk at first so they had to wheel me down to NICU to see DS...then they would forget about me even after they'd call up to bring me back!). But overall I had a good experience! The NICU staff was so amazing with DS.

Re: Winthrop Hospital

DH & I are going to a orientation class in two weeks. It is two hours 7-9 on a wed night I think. They don't do a tour but go over everything like parking, etc... It is a slide show type thing run by a nurse w/ a half hour of a pediatrician talking. Since we had our first oos, I figured it would be good so we know where to park, etc.. Call the parent education office to schedule, it is free. Also taking my 3yo dd to a sibling class which is $20. They take them on a little tour to get them comfortable, & give them a little certificate. Will update when we get back.

Re: Winthrop Hospital

I delivered there April 2011 and will again in September 2013. After my experience, I won't go anywhere else. Docs and nurses were excellent, NICU was fantastic. Food was really good. I had a private room although many shared then... I hear that most people get their private rooms unless it's packed now. And my room had a private bathroom and shower... a big plus. I felt that my care and DD's care (in NICU for a week) were both top.

Paid parking is annoying, but if you are there for an extended time, or DC is there for a while (a week in my case), you can usu get a pass to park for free, as I did. Big big help.

Re: Winthrop Hospital

I called too late for the orientation ( and they dont do physical tours which kinda defeat the purpose for me anyway) So let me get this straight, when i go into labor- my husband has to pay for parking if he is there all day with me or do they at least give you a 1 day pass ( and how do you get it?) ???? Thats the only thing Im confused about. Im gonna just walk in there Wednesday so we know how to get there ( never seen it before) check out the lobby, admissions and take the elevator to the maternity floor. Any chance you think I can make it pass to see the nursery? lol

LOL. No no, you have your husband drive into the main entrance, pull up to security, and tell them u r in labor. They let u park in handicap/emergency parking for free (it's "close" to the front) and walk right in. Free parking that day. Other days, he'd park in the pkg garage. Speak to security desk (which you pass on your way to New Life Center) for the pass to park for free if you need.

At the tour, you see the New Life Center, yes... but they also tell you what happens when you come in... alleviates a bit of anxiety about where to go and what the procedure is, at least for me. Not a fantastic tour, but worth the price of admission (free) for sure.

I delivered at Winthrop in 2010. I had a great experience. The staff was great and helpful. We did get free baby stuff Chat Icon I don't remember how bad/great the food was, but I don't have any complaints about it. I thought the delivery room was nice. I had a roommate afterwards...it was fine.
