Winthrop Hospital

Hey Ladies! With DS I delivered at Mercy which I loved. This time around the dr. told me they got to Winthrop more then any other hospital. What was your experience like? Was the food good? Do you get a lot to take home? Do you have to pay to park? Anything you can tell me will help!

food was great! my husband still raves about the dessert cart. I had a great experience there. We took a lot home - but I didn't plan on it, the nurse said that they can't reuse anything left in the drawer. I believe we paid to park

I had a fantastic experience. All of the nurses were really nice. They gave me tons of take home goodies. I don't remember the parking situation but I was really happy with how we were treated.

I delivered in 12/10. My experience was great. The food was sooooo good! The nurses were all wonderful as well.

Winthrop Hospital

I had my girls there in 2011 by c-section. The food was good. The care I had was great. I loved everyone of the staff. They all treated me very kindly. I never felt like I was being ignored and everything was very clean and organized. The NICU is level 3, and considered one of the best around, if god for bid you need it (which we did). I have no idea about the parking but the hospital itself was exactly what I needed. It was my first time being pregnant and I felt confident in the staff and very well taken care of.

I delivered there in November.
Parking: When we were in L&D we were able to use the emergency lot. After that, we had to pay for the regular lot, but it was full. DH had to drive around trying to find a spot on the street. Not easy with the LIRR there. The best he could do was a 90 min spot, and of course, he ended up with a ticket one of the days.
Food: Very good, but no dessert cart (they had this back in 2009, but not now). You can write in menu items and they will try to accommodate. Burger was great. But- every meal was missing something- condiment, side, etc.
Staff: The nursing staff was great, but they really want you to keep the baby with you 24/7- which includes bringing them into the bathroom, which I was not thrilled about. It was very busy when DS was born- I had to share a room, and no one gave me the bag of stuff with the pads, wipes, etc. Just an oversight, but make sure you get this.

I delivered both my girls there and my siste delivered there a month ago. We both had great experiences. The nurses are great. The food was very good. My sister said they came around with a dessert cart at night. You do have to pay for parking. They have a nicu. Thankfully, didn't have to use it but at least you know it's there. They also do their best to try and make the rooms private; unless they have to double up.

Everything seemed fine to me and I wouldn't have any reservations about delivering there again.

They didn't give us a ton to bring home, but the food was fine, the staff/nurses were SUPER nice and accommodating, the lactation consultant was fabulous, and once I got my own room (after a terrible roommate night one), everything was smooth sailing.

I just delivered my dd there on 1/28/13 via c-section. I also had my son there in July of 2011. The food is good. The nurses are great! They try to keep rooms private if possible. I didn't have a roommate at all this time, with my son I only had a roommate on the first night. We were able to take home everything in the drawer. My sister in law gave birth there this August to twins at 26 weeks and was very happy with the NICU which is important to have just in case. Parking can be tricky though, my husband got a parking ticket one day this time! Overall, I would recommend Winthrop.

Hey! I just delivered my son there in January. I had a pretty good experience. First, in L&D, the rooms were very nice and big. The nurses there were great. They were recently renovated. The only weird thing is once I was admitted and brought in only the person (or people) that were going to be with you during the actual delivery were allowed to be there. For example, my parents got to hospital when I was 6cm but couldn't come see me (I only wanted my husband when I was going to push.) Then I went upstairs, rooms were fair. I was put in double but didn't have to share. If your husband wants to stay, tell the nurse so they put your room in the last to fill. Most of the nurses were good, I had one nurse that I didn't care for. On the other hand, I had one night nurse that stayed and worked on bfing with me for a good 30 minutes.
I thought the food was fair (I am a picky eater.) It was pretty good for hospital food. They give you a menu to choose from.
Yes you have to pay for parking, they give you like one day for free when you actually delivery but not the rest of your stay.
