Painting and good colors for our bedroom?
My DH is taking my 3 boys out of town in a couple of weeks for about 4 days. While they're gone I was thinking of surprising him and painting my bedroom a different color.
I've never painted in my life lol. I know it's boring (DH NEVER wants to paint because he hates it), but is it harder than it looks? I don't care if its not totally perfect...nobody really goes in our room except for us.
Has anyone done this themselves? Any tips besides taping everything?
Also, my walls are just a slight off-white color now, so I'm not planning on priming it or anything. What are good, soothing colors for a bedroom? Any recommendations? I'm open to anything.

Def use painters tape. We just bought a house and painted our room a nice pale blue. Check out Benjamin Moore's pale palette. Some nice options.

I have SW Rainwashed in my bedroom... I love it! It's a very soothing soft pale bluish-green with greyish undertones.

Painting and good colors for our bedroom?
We have painted our entire house by ourselves. It's taken two years, but we are painting experts. Some tips -buy the best quality paint you can afford. We use BM Aura, but there are others out there. High quality paint goes on smoother and you can touch it up without the touchup showing. -get a shorthandled brush for cutting. My favorite is the Wooster shortcut. You can get it at Home Depot. -watch for drips as you go along, particularly in the area that you first put the roller on the wall after you dip it in paint -similarly, watch out for paint splatter as you roll -if you have hardwoods and get paint on them, rubbing alcohol will get it out -if you have time, recaulk the baseboards and trim. It gives it a nice clean look
Good luck! Paint can totally change a room for very little cost!

Use quality brushes, trust me, it will make the job easier. Buy a Purdy slanted paint brush. They are pricey but well worth it if you are doing the job yourself. I am the world's worse painter and even I didn't have to use painters tape because I cut in the corners and the ceiling with a slanted brush. Best advise I ever took from my contractor brother-in-law.

Painting is so simple! You'll be so happy once you're done. All good tips given already, but I'll just add one - I got a cutting in tool that has wheels on it and a pad for the paint. You put the wheels up to the ceiling and literally roll it across. It makes such easy work of it. I never have to tape because I use this instead. Just be careful not to get paint on the wheels! DH did that and hence got paint on the ceiling! And just watch that the fibers of the pad are pointing up, so the paint goes right up to the ceiling. It's really a cinch.
This is what I use: Ceiling painting tool

Anything very pale-I'm a fan of light blue, which is what I have in my room right now.
Try to find out when your ceiling was done last. When I painted my DD's room (new to her- it was beige and I painted it lavender) I though the ceiling looked fine. When I put on the new color the ceiling suddenly looked very dingy and I had to paint it. Ideally the ceiling should be done first and it was a big pain to do it the other way around. So keep that in mind if your ceiling wasn't done recently. And if you have to do the ceiling, don't be intimidated, it's really easy and quick.
