temping - did i mess up this morning?
i've been charting my basal body temp this cycle to put my mind at ease that i do, in fact, ovulate (or to find out if i'm not) and based on some other fertility signs, i really thought today was going to be my thermal shift after ovulation. and stupidly, in my half asleep state this morning i think i took the thermometer out of my mouth before it finished reading my temp. i glanced at the temp and thought "ugh, that sucks. it isn't much higher than the last few days" and relaxed in bed another minute. then i got up and went to the bathroom and when i got back in bed i realized i was pretty sure i messed up taking my 1st temp. i retook my temp and that temp definitely would constitute a thermal shift. I know, I know - you have to use your temp right when you wake up before you get out of bed. BUT, my question for you temping/charting ladies: do you think getting up for a minute and going to pee would drastically change your bbt? i guess i'll find out tomorrow morning when i take my temp correctly if it looks like i had a thermal shift, but i'm curious to hear your feedback...

I've just started temping as well so I'd love to see feedback on this as well...
is the shift really that drastic? I'm afraid I'll miss it!

I am pretty sure any movement like that, even as simple as going to the bathroom, can affect your temp.

Yup. I've messed up before like falling back asleep with the thermometer in my mouth and it falls out and then I retake it and it's different. Just record the original temp and make a note that there is a possible error.

from the reading i've been doing, how drastic the shift is really depends on each person (and some women may ovulate and not show a thermal shift - just to complicate things more!). in general, you want to notice a pattern of low temps and then a pattern of higher temps, which is easier to see once you've charted a full cycle.

Honestly I just input the data into Fertility Friend and let that figure it all out. I don't have the time or energy to interpret the data myself. I just use CBEFM to let me know when O is going to happen and then the temping just confirms it.

Yes, what you said about looking for changes in the pattern is key. Even if you had a spike this am you should have 3 consecutive days of higher temperatures before confirming O

ok this is good to know. I'm only in the first 9 days, all in the 97.4-97.8 range so knowing that I'm coming into possible ovulation time, I'm hoping to see it maybe move into the 98.-something range to be able to detect some kind of thermal shift. I guess we'll see... I'll see it through the whole cycle for sure thanks for your input!!
