Disney questions for those who have been there

We're thinking about taking out DD in december. What are the do's and don't to know before we book and go? I haven't been there since I was I think 6/7, so I'm clueless. All advise and suggestions are welcome.

Go early December Christmas time is crazy crowds.

Make sure to book you ADRs at the 180 day window or you risk not getting into the most popular meals (chef mickeys, Be Our Guest, etc)

The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World great book. There is a kids book but it is just pretty much an abbreviated version of the full book. Just get the main book.

I would definitely recommend going in late January. That's when we went and it was perfect! The crowds were manageable and the weather was nice and cool with a couple of pool days sprinkled in. Prices were also awesome! I would absolutely stay on site... Highly recommend the Port Orleans French Quarter resort. It's one of the smaller ones, but it was just a short shuttle ride to all of the parks. You def want to do the meal plan and park hoppers. We did one park in the morning, hopped on the shuttle back to the resort for an afternoon nap and headed to a different park in the afternoon/evening. Overall an amazing trip! Without a doubt use a disney travel agent- I highly recommend mouse tales travel. Bob was a tremendous help in helping us plan what turned out to be a perfect vacation!

Definitely go at an off-peak time if possible.

Stay on site. If you can afford it, I recommend staying on the monorail. If not, stay near magic kingdom since with a young child you'll probably spend most of your time there.

get the dining plan! It will seem very costly at first but will prob end up saving you some money in the end and the character meals, which can pricey, are a highlight for young kids (& and their parents)

Order from garden grocer. They are like pea pod and will deliver groceries to your resort. We get a case of water, juice, and milk.
