WWYD/health insurance question
My company is getting rid of our current health insurance plan (for the 3rd time in the past 2 years) and they are giving us 2 options... Plan # 1 will cost $570 a month to cover my husband and I and $816 a month once we have kids and plan 2 will cost us $1009 a month and $1362 a month once we have kids.
The plans aren't really that much different as far as what's covered but the cheaper plan doesn't have ANY of my doctors in network and doesn't cover out of network physicians. I have really gotten comfortable with my OBGYN and she has been there for me through my miscarriage and she performed my salpingectomy surgery- I really don't want to go to another doctor... but its SO much more for the 2nd plan! That's almost half my paycheck!
My husband's office doesn't have health insurance- he is considered a self-employed/general contractor.
The only other option I could think of is to take an individual plan to just cover myself (for now) which is 224 per month... and then my husband will have to pay full price for doctor visits. (hoping he won't need to visit any) Or he can find some other individual plan on his own.
I dont know what to do.

Re: WWYD/health insurance question
I'm dealing with something similar right now. I have an individual plan that just covers me becuase to add DH and potential DCs it would be like almost an entire paycheck a month. DH's job doesnt currently offer health insurance and I just pray that he doesn't get sick this year because last year we ended up paying a lot of money out of pocket because he had to have gallbladder removal surgery.
We had options of different priced plans and I chose the plan that my obgyn accepts because, like you, I feel comfortable with her.
Is there anyway that your DH could look into Healthy NY, it is not for low income families anyone can get it but there is a monthy fee like with any insurance. It would probably be cheaper than what your job is offering.
I also remember looking into a BCBS Hospital only plan that was like between $180-190 a month. Maybe that would be good for your DH for now. Just in case there is an emergency.

WWYD/health insurance question
Personally I would take the 1st plan with both of you on it and find a new OBGYN. I LOVE my OBGYN and been going to her for 10 years but that is a lot more money and I wouldn't risk my DH not having coverage incase there is an emergency. You can post on here to see who would recommend their OBGYN in your area. I know its a tough decision but might be temporary until your job switches to a new insurance. Good luck.

Yea thats what I'm thinking I might do. Chances are my company will switch again or its possible I might find a new job because I don't see myself staying there too much longer anyway. I was just really hoping I wouldn't have to go through the whole process of finding an OB again

Don't leave DH without coverage. If something bad happens it could bankrupt you.

Thanks everyone!
I wouldn't leave him without coverage completely. You can get an individual hospital plan which actually covers a lot- it just doesn't cover basic doc office visits so he'd have to pay out of pocket the 2x a year (if that) he ever goes to the doctor

I agree. I know it stinks but I would take the cheaper plan and switch Drs.

Thanks everyone for your input!
There are other individual plans my husband could get by himself that aren't so bad- there is a hospital-only plan that will cover emergencies and then he would have to just pay out of pocket for regular doctor's appointments, which in the long run ends up being cheaper. I think I'm just gonna suck it up though and find a new doctor. There isn't much of a selection however under this plan.

Re: WWYD/health insurance question
I'd choose the plan to have my husband on the insurance. Accidents, unknown illness are never predicted but its always best to be covered. Blood tests alone are super expensive.
I always live by the motto "your health is your wealth". Never take a chance.
For covering your child. Look into Healthy NY, or Child Health Plus. It might be a fee but surely will be cheaper than what your plan would be.
There are thousands of good drs out there and having a rapport with your dr is great but ideally, you can develop a new rapport with a different dr.
If you choose to cover your husband with insurance for hospitals, you might want to look into ones that offer free or pay scale services. Some hospitals offer dr visits for checkups, prescriptions, etc etc based on your salary. Rite Aid has a great prescription coverage for those who are uninsured. Its worth looking for these things.
