baptism issues
I waited too long to book a place for my twins baptism and my guest list is humongous, which is limiting our options. We found a place that can accomodate us for less than wedding prices but the only problem is the time. The baptism is at 1 in western queens and the party wohld be from 7-11 in new hyde park. Would you think thats weird? Do most people skip the church anyway? Or should I keep looking? Dh isnt thrilled about it, so it seems we may need to start cutting our list to open up our options but I dont even know how thats going to be possible. Tia

Re: baptism issues
I think the church is the important part for baptism (and wedding actually)- but that is spread very far apart... how many people are you planning, maybe we can give you some ideas of other places to look

Re: baptism issues
I *personally* don't think that set-up is ideal. I would not schedule the party so many hours after the baptism. And since baptisms are on Sundays I think a party from 7-11 is extremely late when most everyone has to work the next day. I know DH and I would NOT want to attend a late party like that on a Sunday night.
Generally, the party should follow the baptism and at least with us, almost everyone on our guest list came to the party. They would not have wanted to come to the church at 1 and then stay dressed up all day for a party at 7. I think you need to be more considerate of your guests and monopolizing someone's Sunday from basically 1 until 11 pm is really asking a lot of people.
I would cut the guest list and/or find a different venue. I would not schedule a party for that late and that long after the actual baptism. Sorry.

Re: baptism issues
Thanks for your advice and the baptism is on a Saturday not that it matters much. I guess I'm looking in queens and nassau but my guest list is around 100-120. How is my guest list so huge? !

I didn't know they can do them on a Saturday. That's better if you plan on a late party but I still wouldn't space them so far apart. Good luck!!!!!

I don't think most people even go to the church. The only people going to the church for us are the godparents, grandparents and my grandma.

Try Jackie Reilly's in Bethpage. We had a guest list over 100 (ended up at 93 people). They were really inexpensive and the food was good! I think we did open bar and ended up around 27pp. The only thing I would change is doing sit down rather then buffet. Because we had so many people it made it really tough. ..They really work with you. The owner Sean is a friend of mine so let me know if you have any questions!

Def keep looking. What about a Knights of COlumbus or place like that.
Catering halls will basically have the typical time slots. 6 or 7 pm start or a noon day event.
Try to think restaurant also. Places that aren't just catering halls, they tend to be more flexible on times.

Re: baptism issues
we had our party for 100 people at a park/town's rec room! Paid the town so it was a one time fee not per person...so it was the cheapest way for us not to have to cut the list! All we had to do was bring in the food and drinks...still more affordable for us than a restaurant!
is there something like this near you to consider?!?!?! Like a KoC or some type of room that you rent out!?!?!
I would also do it closer to the baptism.. times are too far apar IMHOt!

Re: baptism issues
The kofc in nhp was the place that had the 7pm time slot. Piccolo bussola is too small. The only restaurant I know of that can accomodate so much is paparazzi but they werent available. We re waiting to hear back from the american legion in williston pk but I dont really wanna go too much further east than that bc we have family coming from queens. I may have to though. Thanks

what about Verdis of Whitestone? I know they can accomodate that many and their prices are reasonable. It's recently re-done and very pretty and the food is amazing.

Re: baptism issues
We had 150 people for DD's baptism in December on a Sunday. Church was at 1pm and cocktail started at 6:30pm. Everyone mostly came to the party not church and everyone left after cake at 11pm. We had it at Russo's on the Bay in Howard Beach.

I personally wld not want to do a 6:30 pm on a sundaynight but hey if that is all you can find then book it!

Try the Douglaston Manor. I just had a christening party there. They have spacious rooms. I paid $43 pp for sit down, beer, wine and soda. We hired a Dj and it was a great time. Not sure where your church is but we used a church in NHP and the manor was 10 mins away.
