Dumb question: Is there a standard expiration to car seats?
Just wondering. I love our Recaro. She's had it since she was 6m old. So in use its been 4yrs. But something in the back of my head is saying "go look at the seat, does it 'expire'?"
I am not driving that car right now so I can't go out and look. I won't drive that car all week actually so I'm asking here.
Do car seats 'expire'?
She'll be 5 in August and I see no need to take her out of that seat. She's no where NEAR the height or weight limits.

yes, they do expire- it depends on the manufacturer how many years. Most expiration dates are listed on the serial label but if you google recaro expiration- it will tell you how many years and where to find it

Totally not answering your question but how is the Recaro seat. Is it bulky like a Britax? Did it take up a ridiculious amount of space when rear facing. I have to get my younger DS a new seat and I'm between the Recaro, Britax Matathon and the Radian XRT. I don't know anyone with the Recaro but it gets good reviews. It's just a convertabile not one that changes into a booster eventually right?

I LOVE my recaro!
I think its much more comfy than the Britax. JMHO. The cushioning on the legs/thigh part sold me since I knew she'd be in this for such a long time.
It is just as bulky as the Britax (sorry). but I had no issues. For me bulk for safety never phased me at all.
I drive a 2003 Mazda6 and it only fit center as RF. But my 01 Tribute had no problems with it.
Material REALLY holds up well. I've never had to wash it and its still black as night, while the very light cream tan areas are still bright and clean as well. I vacuum it once in a blue moon. But we had a no food policy for a long time and now that she does eat her snacks she's fairly neat.
I was sold for a few reasons (honestly)
#1 - Britax & Recaro are so close in ratings it was just a toss up
#2 - Recaro as a company is in the business of making race car seats. Thats what they DO! I'm a car fan so I've known of them way before I knew of baby seats at all. They are highly respected in their field. They purposely build seats to protect from high speed collisions done on PURPOSE, constantly and not just for testing. They make money off keeping racers safe and comfortable. Rally racers get jarred a lot but they trust recaro as they speed over bumps and dash around curves. If only I could OWN a real Recaro seat set myself! haha So I am familiar with their product, company and ideals from an adult standpoint and felt confortable with them as a company vs just "everyone gets a britax its the best" (not to say they aren't good)
#3 - Side by side blind test I always chose Recaro on butt comfort. Hubby lined three up, two Britax one Recaro (all BRU had) I would push my palm on the bottoms and honestly, Recaro always one.
Still.. so expensive.
Finally, WOOT.com !!! I was saving up to buy a Recaro (I had the travel set thingie as an infant carrier). Then I missed the Recaro sale on Woot. Then it came back up I got it! $99 plus $5 shipping. By far my best buy ever! Only wish I had gotten two.

I believe Racaro's expire 6 years from date of manufacturing. Check with the company, on the seat or in the manual to be sure.
You need to know the date on the seat itself because it could have been brand new when you bought it or it could have been sitting on a shelf for a year before you purchased it.
